I am lucky that I have an understanding group of like minded folks that enjoy hiking and backpacking in unimaginable ways. Why not start a thread about daughters and granddaughters on the trail?
Added - I can teach her to poop in the woods, that's a givin. I am asking what keeps it upbeat and fun?
In this day and age common sense isn't very common.TrafficJam wrote:

I suppose it's just common-sense parenting.

My wife can enjoy a day hike, but at the end of the day she does not give up modern conveniences (shower/bath, bed , electricity, etc.).

Has she ever been camping before at all? One of my favorite things to do when I was a kid was camp in the backyard. I didn't have to go far and if for some reason I was over the "trip" by the end of the night, well, my bed was just inside the house. It was even better if I had friends over and my parents supervised a "camp" fire.
Hiking, I don't really remember a time I wasn't in the woods but I do know that my parents took my sister and I on lots of day trips. Just long enough to spend a few hours bouncing around through the woods, preferably with a fun water feature near by and a place to stop for lunch or a snack along the way before heading back to the car. When we were both really young, my parents carried everything which was usually just a day pack or small cooler. As I got older and more interested in overnight trips, I carried my own pack and was much more well versed in the great outdoors.

I don't know why so any women shun the outdoors.
My boss says his wife's idea of camping is to open the windows while staying in a high end hotel.
Kathy and I are one of just a few couples I know where both husband and wife love the outdoors, I'm one lucky and thankful guy. And to you ladies who do enjoy the outdoors, do what you can to get your friends to experience it at least once.
