I know it wont be an easy way to go. But that's how I've always gone. I don't ask for free handouts and prefer to earn it if I get it. With On road hiking I usually find odd jobs or maybe even a regular one for a bit as I travel. Anyway here's to hoping for a longer time hiking the AT.

I'm looking to take another hike. It's the perfect time for me no job no plans etc. At 32 years old I don't expect I have much more time where my body will handle this kind of thing. I only have one problem. I no longer have most of my gear and money... Forget it. I'm not exactly poor or looking for handouts here. Just saying where I am at. From what I here it's about the right time of year to start the at as well south to north. So I guess I'll be going as far as I can. Haven't left home in Marathon key, fl yet but soon will.

When it comes right down to it I'm one very determined (but not foolish) individual. I've left home with little more than a few dollars in my pocket traveled most of the way across the country more than once, met some of the most interesting and decent people and had a blast. I've spent nights in tent cities with the homeless and had them give me a sleeping bag to rest in for the night. I've given away food when I had absolutely nothing else to get by with ( including money) and I was 1000s of miles from home. I've had some hairy situations as well though as you can imagine. But I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I know the dangers even if not all by first hand experience. I just trust that I will be taken care of when necessary and I do my Best to do right period. when I decide to go that's it. I get that itch and I'm gone.

Curious question. Is there a way one could survive strictly hiking trails? I'm a livaboard sailor and in that lifestyle it's just a matter of having a random skill that relates to boats IE mechanical or 12 volt DC electrical know how.
