Impressive.
I cannot imagine hiking from Springer to Pearisburg in the weather he, GG and the other early starters have been experiencing.
Then again temps in the middle of my winter rarely fall below 60 for maximums or out of the 40's for minimums so I have no opportunity to practice.Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait. -

Wow, in a couple of days they will be past where it has taken me 3 years to get to.
I am happy for them, and they probably will really be flying in a few weeks as the weather warms up and they head out of VA.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

hey everyone, how is it going? Good German has gotten ahead of me cause I slowed down to get my new hiking partners trail legs in shape before blasting on. I have been having a blast. I took a picture of a sign the other day and got accused of writing on it by somebody on my f-borg page, lol, I didn't write on it but he is adamant that I did. My new Hennessey hammock tent is the shizzle in the drizzle. it rocks! I just got new footwear from walmart, light weight hikers, the keens Hudson gave me had no tread at all and I got tired of falling on my ass on wet stones, roots, footbridges, and streams. I guess I found the one time where second hand just does not work out so well. I love my swiss gear hiking poles, but why do they have shocks? I have no idea. the weather is improving and that is a bonus. this whole town is booked due to construction so we are sleeping in the game room of the holiday motor lodge. it has been brutal at times, I am night going to lie. At overmountain shelter I stayed on the platform in my Cabela's XPG Backpacker Zero Degree bag and it was 25 degress outside, cool, right? Nope, like 30mph winds kicked in and I could feel the wind coming through my bag. GG and I made a break for the barn. Some of the winter storms when I was alone was iffy and now the cold weather is like whatever. Yeah, its cold gagin, whatever lol. Im tired of cold hands, that is my winter beef, I hate cold hands and my mountain hardwear gloves help but they take soooooo long to warm your hands up."You might not get everything you want out of life, but you will get exactly what you need!"-Dakota Joe 2006 -

I hate staying in shelters in the winter. My tent is much warmer.
Hope your birthday was happy! I haven't been on here in a few days; life gets in the way of cyberhiking sometimes.I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here. -

The last time I stayed in one, it stank like a hamster cage and the roof leaked. But I got there about one minute ahead of a hellacious thunderstorm. I was hearing the widowmakers crashing down all around, and really didn't like the idea of trying to pitch a tent in that weather. At least I'd managed to get down off the exposed ridge before the really nasty stuff hit.
I decided to cook a meal, and it was still storming when I was done eating. I ducked out for a few minutes to hang my food, came back in, and crawled into a sleeping bag to try to warm up again while I waited it out. Next thing I knew it was morning.
Any port in a storm.
But I hear you about shelter suction.I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here. -

I am learning something new. Do criminals have messed up hands? How do you know that isn't sign language? You could have just insulted a deaf guy.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -
