That might be the guy I heard about- some guy trying to average 40 mpd. Definitely not for me, but if that's what he wants to do then I wish him well."Dazed and Confused"

The successful ones seem to come out of nowhere, make an announcement and then get to the business of hiking and don't say much until they are done.Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

Just don't visit ft. Bastion againSometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

don't know anything about him so really can't comment.
however, did see something on his fb page (thanx for the heads up trebor) that concerns me. he says there are 2 types of unsupported hikes and maybe he'll come up with a 3rd definition. so apparently he hasn't articulated in his own mind yet what the "rules" are he will follow?2,000 miler -

i was thinking i could flip flop with ft bastion as the end point in case i finished too early, but then again, if i am to have the record for longest continuous thru hike it would have to be continuous, with no zeros in town. 366 full days on the trail.supported/unsupported, i don't suppose it mattersits all good -

I think this record has been done already. You would need to go even slower.Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

Then your hike ended a couple of years ago.Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

Does anyone know what Greywolf's background or credentials are? I haven't heard much about him before this. Is he a serious speed hiker/ultra runner with an established following or is he just someone who came out of the woodwork?Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

i asked that very question to greywolf yesterday afternoon on his fb page. no response from either him or any of 240 people who have "liked" him. warren doyle who follows this type of thing closely hasn't heard of him either.
He has a second Facebook page- "Jeremy GreyWolf Stephens" that offers a little more insight to himself. It says he thru hiked in 2012. Based on his pictures this looks to be correct. He had a post from early morning of July 9th saying he was in Millinockett Maine having breakfast before taking a shuttle to Baxter to begin the hike. If he's not updating or replying it may be because there is no signal. Who knows for sure.RIAP -

Two stops at Fort Bastian and HB would take at least a full year to do a thruhike.
Whats all this talk about Ft Bastain? I guess i missed out on start of it.RIAP -
Fort Bastian (Bastion?), is a work in progress.
Run by Nigel (TruBrit), it is potentially a wonderful wilderness camp (my description, not necessarily Nigels).
It offers free stay for thruhikers and is developing it's very own "social" scene.
Mountain Mike is setting up home there and HB had about 20 zeroes on his recent LASH of the AT.
Don't believe anything he says.
He was drawn into it's whirlpool effect.
Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait. -

I'm going to attempt to set a speed record...speed knitting while hiking.

I'm trying to decide if I should make a supported or unsupported attempt. It will probably be supported as I don't like going braless in public.Lost in the right direction.

Being the rabid gram weenie that I am, I am tempted to comment, but am scared. Perhaps I have said too much.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -
I have always gone unsupported. But then, team sports were never my thing.I am human and I need to be loved - just like everybody else does
