Fun, I nearly died in the Smokies. I hope that's not a sign, especially since I've been trip planning all morning.Lost in the right direction.
-
The game won't let me zero on the trail. I would rather zero there than in town. It acts like it is unhealthy to sleep in the woods. When am I going to toughen up? I am half way there, ahead of schedule, half my money is gone, and my health is at 15. What a wimp I am. I would be fine, but the only way I can heal is to spend money zeroing in town. I want to take 4 zeros on the trail. Food and towns are everywhere. I want to stealth camp.
LW... get in here and rewrite this game so it works better!Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -
i was playing around with the game and took 50 zeros at the noc - $80 a day i must have eaten really well.
anyway, i left fontana dam with $10 and was hiking thru the park when i ran out of money. how do you spend money in the park? turns out my shoulder strap broke and it cost me $10 to repair it.
i mention this because on my real thru hike when i was in the park my hip belt broke. although i sewed it up with dental floss for free.
and yeah, i also hate that i have to sleep in shelters. and that you can't go into regular town stops like hiawassee that aren't on the trail.2,000 miler -

Very addicting. I made it 1706 miles and died from lyme disease. So I guess I need to take more zeroes and keep my Health above 40 (I still had of $3000).The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Your right. The gunpowder residue and oil makes the beer taste weird when mixed with guns.Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

i could never hike with this guy. gotta take too many zero days (to keep your health up) and he made me take 2 days looking for mushrooms in the woods. plus the whole gotta sleep at the shelters requirement.
and who starts at springer with 5 days of food?2,000 miler -
Finally made it all the way on my third try. Died in the wilderness on my first two. Hope that isn't an omen.
On the third try I hiked fewer miles to keep my health up. Only averaged 10.8 mpd. Then I would stop just short of towns or just past towns and sleep in shelters to conserve money. Finished with health close to 90% and about $900 dollars left for the trip home. Took me until Sept to finish even though I started in March. -

A patrol of Boy Scouts found me unresponsive on the floor of Horseshoe Canyon Shelter. They did their best, but those 47 tick bites did me in! I even had a G-note left over. I was hoping the Penobscots had a casino! 2.gifCheesecake> Ramen

That's how I did it. Tried to do it as a student and the game gave me everything from blisters to giardia. Ruined my tent too. Only made a little over 500 miles. -
-
Took me three tries, too. Keep your health above 50 at all times in case of snakebite. Needed 41 zeroes because the game through everything at me. Almost never needed to resupply before needing to zero to recover health and energy.
I think the game rewards speed-hiking. I figured on the first go-around that I'd try to keep a steady 15 mpd pace without too many zeroes, but it seems that kills you with accidents. I had both knees blow out in the Poconos. Some of the accidents appear to happen per-day rather than per-mile. On the second attempt I tried to run a professional, and wound up somewhere in VT with approximately zero health, zero money, zero energy and zero food. Died of blackflies, or was it a tick bite?I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here.
