The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath runs 184 miles between Cumberland Maryland and Washington DC (Georgetown) along the Potomac River. The trail is nearly flat. Tents may be pitched on grass or dirt at designated campsites, where you will find a fire ring, picnic table, plastic privy, and water pump. The handles are removed from the pumps during winter. The wells are treated with iodine. Much of the trail is wide enough for a pickup truck, which is used for maintenance. The wheel tracks are improved with fine rock, with a softer grassy strip between the two tracks in many places. Crushed rock covers the entire width of the trail in other sections. The Paw Paw tunnel has a narrower path with an uneven surface.
I am human and I need to be loved - just like everybody else does
