Thought we could make this a place to discuss NH's 4000 footers.

I have not been doing these in any systematic way, I have a dozen or so completed, and I might get to climb one a year. At my current rate I should be done when I am 92 years old

So to celebrate Patriots Day I made a rather spontaneous decision to climb Mount Tecumseh, the smallest of NH's 4000 footers at 4003 feet. I was driving down 93 and just decided to pull off and finally do this hike. I was a bit unprepared. I had enough warm clothes, my AMC map, but not much else.

About a mile into the hike it quickly became evident that spring still had not come to the Whites. The trail was a steeply sloped river of wet ice all the way to the ridge. I was in my trail runners. Lesson learned, BRING YOUR MICRO SPIKES!.

A few smart hikers passed me on the way up in their spikes, and I saw several hikers heading down equipped like me having decided that the smart thing to do was turn around. I was channeling my stupid and stubborn self that day and kept plugging away. I made it, but admit it was not smart. The trip down was much more difficult than the trip up.





The trail passes by the Waterville Valley ski-slopes, which offered a nice view. My camera batteries were dying, so I do not have any photos of the ice waterfalls I climbed up, but below is a photo from the summit....



I was not expecting much of a view at 4000 feet, but it was rather nice. This is looking out across Waterville Valley at the Tripyramids. I survived with just one fall, so all-in-all it was a good day. But next time I promise to bring the micro spikes.
