I played around with a very similar design it worked very well in Sil-nylon. I tried it in Cuben, and gave up on my own and bought a Z-packs solo-plus tarp and used my own bugnet with bathtub floor under it. No advantage to cat cut on the bottom edge, makes it much harder to get a nice hem. If using Sil-nylon the ridgeline will make a cat curve on its own. If using cuben, a cat cut is the only way to get a tight pitch. You don't want to know what it cost me to learn this!

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

I got the panels cut out tonight, 8.5 oz before all the tie out loops, hardware, and stitching. I think TJ asked what I cut my material with, so here's a picture of my wood burning tool that I use and the other tools that I use. Making a tarp is not rocket science, it's mostly geometry and your imagination.

Just finished moding my MYOG inner to better fit my new tarp which I've named "The Stealth One". The materials for the net tent also came from RipStopByTheRoll. The floor is the 1.1 oz 2nd gen silpoly. The net tent weighs 13.1 ozs, making the whole shelter weigh in at 24 oz and NO CUBEN. I am very happy about that. The tarp has been set up in my backyard for over 24 hours in the rain and I am impressed. Literally no stretch. i am very happy with the set up. The net inner has a 6" tub floor, and tapers from 38" at the head end to 28" at the foot end, has two sets of net pockets and a mitten hook on the ceiling to hand a light or whatever from.
Maybe when I retire again I will put a few into production if there's any interest.

I'm a busy body. Also in the garage are a 4 wheeler ( for a grandson & his dad) and a little mini motocross bike (for me heh heh) that I'm re-building and I'm making a stove cover for the camper."Dazed and Confused"

Nice job. Is the tarp separate from the tent? What's the advantage of tapering the tent?Lost in the right direction.

Sounds good. When I saw your pictures I thought, no way could I sleep with my head at the open end of the tarp. I also thought that tapering it means that a lot more thought has to go into your site selection before set up.Lost in the right direction.

site selection with tarp is actually easier than with a tent because I can have some rocks or roots or stumps under the perimeter (up to about a foot inside) and it really won't affect my set up because the net inner is about a foot smaller than the footprint of the tarp. I can also vary the pitch of the tarp to make it wider or skinnier- you cant do that with a tent."Dazed and Confused"
