I'm not a recipe follower in the kitchen and my sewing follows the same path. No patterns, I just visualize what I want then go to work making it happen. This is a an 84" x 60" top quilt with 5oz Climashield Apex insulation. By ratings I have seen online this should make a 30° quilt. The footbox is sewn along the seam 24" and the bottom is closed via a drawcord so that it can loosened as need be to facilitate drying.
I started by measuring a 7' length of 1.35oz ripstop and then a second piece slightly longer to facilitate a channel for the drawcord. I sewed the channel then layed the two pieces on top of each other and started pinning to the insulation

The pining sucks, but it makes the sewing possible.....pin, pin, pin.....

After pinning I trimmed the insulation to size and started sewing

Sew all the way around the quilt with the exception of the middle 2' or so of the footbox

I left the insulation untrimmed in this gap to ensure that I would have thread going through the insulation when it came time to close it up. Also, I failed to get a picture of what is likely the trickiest part of the whole build and that is inverting the channel. You want the channel turned and pinned to the inside of the two pieces of cloth because the bag is being sew inside out and the channel needs to be on the outside when complete.....sorry about that omission.
Now you reach inside between the two sheets of cloth and grab the far corners and pull them through the opening, turning the bag right side out.

Your channel for the drawcord should now be visible

On the end with the channel, sew the two sides together for about 24" to form the footbox. Now insert the drawcord and cinch it up tight. Voila! you now have a top quilt.

I didn't take the time to smooth it out and pretty it up for the pictures because it was time to get some sleep.
