What should my next sleeping bag or quilt be

Unless you're getting it for the frame. If you're planning to toss the upholstery and have it reupholstered, then it really doesn't matter. (And an older couch is sometimes worth getting for the frame! They don't make 'em that way anymore.)

I have no problem buying a used bag if it's in great shape and has no odor...I still wash it before using. The only used bag I've bought was a Marmot Pennacle, great bag, IMO much better than the Helium, but gets very little use, too warm for most of my outings.

But, but, you might get underwear that used to belong to President Clinton.
If I remember right, it caused a big commotion when people found out that the Clinton's were saying that his used undies were worth $2+. I'm sure the value has gone up over the years. It might have been a good investment! :rolleyes:

I was planning to get a TQ and UQ to go with my DIY hammock before cool weather but a new roof on the house, new AC, Jeep, jeep lift kit, and now about $5000 for house foundation repairs may put that off for a while, I spent most of yesterday boring 3" holes in the basement wall, only 5 left to bore before it's filled with concrete....time to get at it.

I passed up a TQ in favor of a full mummy at 40° with 800 fill or as close as I could get it as a XL person the bag is tight - but on a cold night I can zip up in the Hammock and dive for the bottom. I hate mummy - but I hate being cold even more.

If my feet continue to retain water - I might need a double wide toe box.

I ended up buying the BA Roxy Ann, the women's version of the Ranger. Temps were upper 20's and I stayed pretty comfortable. Two thumbs up from me.

I really love my BA bag, it's so comfy and I want to take it hiking this week. Do ya'll take your down bags with you even if it's raining? It's packed in a trash bag and I have a rain cover for my pack. I imagine it'll get damp when I'm getting in and out of the tent and from keeping my gear in my tent.

I always take a down bag if I'm carrying a pack, I put it in a waterproof lightweight dry bag, never had a problem with it getting wet...except once when a case of flu peaked on the trail...totally soaked the bag, longest 12 miles the next day I ever walked.

The bag should have a water resistant shell. Currently I only have down, so it goes with me in all weather. Just make sure to keep it dry.

Once my bag got wet and heavy. I had my tarp pitched in a bad spot when the downpour came. The flood waters headed straight for the tarp. Lessen learned!

Yes. I updated my older Revelation "X" and replaced some of the micro cords (used to secure the sides of the quilt around you) with the straps that clip the quilt sides to your pad. It's a pretty slick system that Tim has come up with.

I'd be afraid that sleeping directly on the pad would make me sweaty and uncomfortable. I'll have to try it. I'm interested in getting a quilt one day.

I sleep in a silk base layer unless it's the middle to late summer, then I'm in bike type shorts and usually end up with the quilt thrown off of me. But I know what you're thinking about getting sweaty and sticking to the vinyl, but it just hasn't happened to me.
