yup, definitely makes for a better story when we have a visual comparison to strengthen the setting.

Haven’t viewed the films, but these audio books were good for a long distance drive.

While I can't remember the title, I'm working on another book by James Rollins from his Sigma Force series.
Once I start with an author that I enjoy I like to read everything my local library has by that person.
Guess I'm gonna be with Rollins for a while as the library has quite a few of his books

the alphabet ends at Y.

mystery writer sue grafton died yesterday. she wrote the "alphabet series of books": A is for alibi, B is for burglar, C is for corpse, and so on. her last book was Y is for yesterday. so close...we'll never know what Z woulda been.

edit to add: she said Z is for zero would be written and ready for release in the fall of 2019. and in response to many inquiries, she said she had no idea yet where she would go after she reached the end of the alphabet.

I'm reading Beneath A Hunter's Moon by Michael Zimmer. A good old 1800's western. I've been alternating western and deep space science fiction books since having my knee surgery. I think this is my sixth book. I also watched two years of Vikings and all the good westerns from the 60s on MeTV.

When teaching adult literacy classes, I find Sue Grafton’s book series a good motivator for the advanced readers.

sports illustrated is going from a weekly magazine to every 2 weeks.

they claim subscribers are saying they can't read an entire magazine in one week. i call BS on that.

the every other week magazine will be 30% bigger than the weekly version.

will the subscription cost decrease in proportion to the decreased content -- no need to answer -- i think i know...

I understand and agree with your point, but you should also not underestimate the decrease in reading by generations after ours.

These are different times. In Middle School they used to set up machines with a moving light and teach kids to build up their speed and content by taking tests on what we read. Upwards of 200 words per minute or higher. Take for example, reading the Hardy Boys. When I read a donated book and it took more than a week No.4, I went back and started the "Cliff #1 and bought all 53 books and the last 5 were read in less than 2 hours. Even back then a few years later, nobody read "Playboy" for the articles. Some want to exceed.

I have read many Shakespeare's works and other books. odd ones like "Black Like Me" in High School. "Famous Five" etc. And a personal favorite "Through Indian Eyes",

I did this in school as well, lousy schpeller but I read like lightening.

Found a new author I really like, Craig Johnson. He has a series of modern day western mysteries set in Wyoming/South Dakota area. Really good, kind of book you can't put down. I got four of them from the library last week and I've been blowing thru them at the rate of a book every two days. On my last one, then it's back to the library to get more sent over from the other libraries.

I read everything my library had by James Rollins.
After I start the new job I'll go discover another author I like and read everything they have by that author.
But right now, nothing.

I've been ADHDing the reading lately. Start one, bounce to another, and so on. It's quite annoying...if only I could figure out why and stop it.

Anyway, currently in the middle of (and pushing on with both until completion rather than starting something else) Dale Brown's latest, called Act of Revenge. Looks to be another new series for him, or at least I guess so because it's subtitled A Puppet Master Thriller but I can't find any other Puppet Master books by him. That's the fiction side. On the non-fiction side I'm re-reading one called Lee's Real Plan at Gettysburg by Troy D. Harman. It started as the guy's thesis for his master's, and he eventually expanded it to a book. I read it a while back, and recently when downloading some new purchases to the Kindle, it popped up in the download queue for whatever reason. I decided to go ahead and give it another whirl, having been back to the battlefield a few more times since the first read.

Just started Alexandra Petri’s ‘A Field Guide to Akward Silences’.

A funny read but mostly not applicable to balanced individuals. But on second thought, are folks willing to endure the rigors of a 2100+ mile hike in a variety of weather conditions, most of which are unpleasant, balanced?
