downside, no sirloin for at least 100 miles.

Consider yourself lucky to be able to get 3 weeks.
I told my boss I'm taking 2 and the powers that be (above my boss) are mumbling under their breath and looking at me sideways. When someone complained about it I told them that my alternative was to retire and let them pay me through monthly social security benefits. They didn't like that very much either -

When I put in my applications in Feb 2013 he came back a few days later and said head office (Melbourne) would only let me have 3 months. I immediately said fine, I am resigning.
The next day I said I had reconsidered. He was happy until I said I am retiring.

I'm not really worried about it one way or the other.
This company has furloughed me twice when it was convenient for them, I'll furlough them if and when the time comes.
If it wasn't for the fact that I love my work and don't feel ready to give it up, I'd just quit if I needed to. -
well no sooner have i started planning my hike than a wrinkle has suddenly developed in the plan.
one of our sales managers(we have 2) is leaving at the end of the month. the boss came over to me yesterday and told me they are going to move a few people around and hes going to ask me to "step up", that the place needs leadership he knows i can provide.
now i'm not certain what "step up"actually means, but it may possibly mean becoming a manager again.
if he does want to promote me, it would most likely mean an end to extended hikes longer than a week or two.
as a salesperson, i have a lot of flexibility, but as a manager, the long trips become a major disruption.
i've been with him for almost 9 years and he's treated me well.
i hope he doesnt ask, because i may feel obligated to accept.its all good -

as far as money goes, it would have to be a considerable increase if it meant giving up my long trips, which, of course,i'm very reluctant to do.
the problem is we do need a leader. the other sales manager is great at running the desk, but not so good at motivating and managing the sales force. he has no vision as to how to grow sales.i do.
my boss has been pretty understanding in allowing me to take my hikes, and having that balance is so great to have, but i do feel obligated to help him as he's supported my goals in the last 9 years.
of course, i think i would take my spring walk regardless, but the fall walk might have to be shortened.
now youve got me overthinking this.
i'll wait and see what he offers, if anything.its all good -

the original fall plan was the jmt, but getting permits seems to be becoming problematic.its all good -
When are you planning to start the hike if the offer doesn't happen? I hope, for your sake, the boss man doesn't ask.
It'd be cool if it worked out where we run into one another! I hope to summit Katahdin by mid to late September.

Pick a start point and walk. Sometime before you're due back at work you walk to a road.
