Because I'm a dork, I have the following 9 months/28 pages of research to share with any other noobies who join our forum. This was created by someone starting from ground zero with no hiking experience and only a dream of hiking the AT. Now I'm 8 days away from beginning.
The document is a bit scattered and somewhat biased toward what I, personally, am looking for in an adventure...best places for good beer on the trail, woman-specific tips, etc. But there are some hidden jewels in this document too, especially regarding places worth seeing, tips for the trail, and the overwhelming task of learning gear.
The document is organized using bold headings to help locate specific information.
Maybe it'll come in handy for others who have an obsession with reading, research, and learning as much as possible before embarking on an adventure of this magnitude.
Cheers!
