Just gotta add that that price point seems a tad high, "the Sharks" would have a field day frenzie with the contestant carrying he wares homeward bound.

That is more expensive than a Bear Boxer Contender! The bearcan also protects your food from all the "mini" bears too.

On a more snerious note, here's a bear bagging tip I read recently:

If you tie your line to a rock or rock bag as weight when throwing a bear bag line, you risk getting the line and weight both caught in a branch and permenantly stuck. Instead, take a good throwing size rock and wrap your line around the rock 20-30 times, but be careful not to tie any knots in the rope, then throw as normal. If the rope gets hung up for any reason, the rock will unravel and fall leaving you with just a smooth line that should pull back down easily.

I always used my stove stuff sack. Throw rock(s), gravel or anything else for weight. Never hung it up yet. I'll say good location choice & great aim. More likely good luck.

I thought most of them were in PA.

They do extend into NJ. I remember on hiker bitching bout rocks on the way to Sunfish Pond just over the border. I asked if he really thought they would suddenly dissapear once we crossed the border. "I was really hoping!" was his response

I don't always hang m food, but when I do I do it right. What I do in VA is very different from say the Sierra. Same as pooping in the woods. Desert vs boreal forest...

Given the chance talk with local rangers, backcountry staff if possible. They know the real deal.

When Kathy and I go out, getting the food bags hung usually becomes the evening entertainment.
Making it easier or quicker would be counterproductive.
What would we do with the rest of our evening?

When you've been out for days, without a shower, in the heat of summer, with your dog in the tent "that" kind of entertainment isn't as appealing as at home, although we have given it a try from time to time .

Just about the same price as the higher end JHP's at my local shop, and much cheaper than the Magsafe rounds.
