It's ridiculous isn't it? Most of those are probably just too lazy to earn and save for their hike like the rest of us. They will be the littering, graffiting, self entitled, leave a trace, give us a bad rap hikers. End of rant."Dazed and Confused"
Recycle, re-use, re-purpose
Plant a tree
Take a kid hiking

I got to say - some may take this the wrong way - its better to give, than to take. Some can call it philanthropy or donation - hell its better than a tax. I heard someone is hiking the trail on one leg this year. I would donate to that guy. Its a helping hand.Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you!

anyone else, I could use a few more deductions. -
there are some legitimate people there looking to raise money for various causes, and some looking to raise money while attempting a thru hike.
but only 1in5 actually complete a thru hike.and i think working for the money to do it, gives you a much stronger mental attitude abnd a better chance at finishing.
anybody spare a twenty, you can send it directly to my paypal acctits all good -

I just browsed through the first few pages of hits on your link, HB. Mind-blowing. One of them was over $4,000! Must have a great sob story. wow - you get a free from woo thought
so lets get this straight..
I hear about a poor kid... I plan to give a hand out... I give a few hundred bucks to his education.. I donate as much as others to help give this kid a hand up.
Here in PA the money is clearly wasted. 4Billion annually is wasted on Philadelphia teachers union. The money goes to big banks to loans that never will be met for retirement. 10,000 students are rushed each year to the hospitals in fights that cause enough physical injury that cannot be helped.
Your tax dollars are wasted on a school system that cannot produce college graduates. NO other school system commands that amount of money other than DC.
HB you are out of touch - people donate more than taxes to the billions. Yes those rich white folk because we care - its in the numbers.
Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you! -
the colleges seem to be full, woo, with no shortage of students applying for multiple schools, all with rising tuition costs that are handcuffing our students who do graduate saddled with tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans. and the banks get richer.
its not me whos out of touch woo, and i dont know what all that has to do with this thread.
one thing you got right-"the money goes to big banks"its all good -

Yes they are racking up debt, but they are not near as frugal as my wife and I who paid 100% of our college expenses. I watch students everyday, so my sympathy only goes so far. Even worst for my wife she missed out on her National Merit Scholarship because her parents would not let her go to college (they did not even want to allow her to go to high school). So she had to wait until she was 21 to go, and then paid her way through without any loans. She worked multiple jobs until she was 21 and then worked while in college to pull it off.
I did go in debt some, but it was the best investment of my life (except maybe my wife's engagement ring ). Of course when I got my MBA (80%) and PhD (100%) I got my employers to pay for it.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

this isnt because people arent as frugal as you were years ago. its because student loans have allowed tuitions to balloon way out of whack with other costs, has even outpaced the rising cost of health care
