Empire State Trail
LIhikers - - Other Trails
PostQuote from odd man out: “We have lots of multi use trails in our area, mostly on old RR right of ways (rail trails). But wondering if anyone has experience doing a long distance hike on one of these. It seems the flat straight nature of rail lines would make for a rather uninteresting. PLUDs (pointless lack of up and downs?) instead of PUDs. On the other hand, this could make it more interesting: "State officials partnered with brewers to create an Empire State Trail Brewery Passport that allows…

Empire State Trail
LIhikers - - Other Trails
PostI'm thinking right where that trail splits would be a good place for an upscale hiker/biker bed and breakfast. I've done a little on line real estate browsing but nothing says "buy me" . I might have to take a drive up there.

MLK 2021
PostI don't know what the usual MLK group is doing this weekend. Kathy and I are putting our packs together for our very own MLK, 2 night trip to Harriman State Park. We don't have a plan for which trails or places to camp we'll use, that'll be decided on the fly.

Trailhead Parking
PostQuote from IMScotty: “Rented a Toyota Carmry this weekend and mmostly enjoyed the experience except for one major problem... the 'Driver's Assist Technology.' Good grief, I get nagged enough at home, I certainly do not want a car that starts beeping at me if I cross a line. Since all the car companies are doing this it looks like I will never buy a new car again. ” I can relate to what Scotty wrote and feel very much the same way.

LIhikers - - Coffee Talk
PostI too played sports, football in the fall (defensive lineman) and ran track in the spring where I ran high hurdles, low hurdles and 1 leg in the mile relay. In my school being a jock didn't get you any extra consideration when it came to academics.

Took a walk today
PostQuote from Traffic Jam: “It’s stupid but I also took a pic of my favorite, insulated coffee container. One of my favorite things in winter is to hike with my hot coffee. I hold my coffee cup with one hand, sipping as I hike, and a trekking pole in the other. ” I'm a big coffee drinker, I should try carrying a thermos.
