I've mentioned here that Kathy and I plan to due a LASH on the AT this year, hiking from Harper's Ferry to Springer Mountain. We are planning to start late in April. Unexpectedly something has come up, that we have no control over, that we'll have to be home for. So now we have no idea when we'll be able to get away. I'm disappointed but not giving up hope that we'll still get it done this year.

Took a walk today
PostGot out for a walk on a trail today, about 4.5 miles. It was very wet and muddy. Not only that but the mud was very slippery , almost like walking on ice. I'm glad I took my poles along

Thru-Hiking the Appalachian Trail as a Full-Time Remote Software Engineer: Feasible?
LIhikers - - AT Specific
PostI don't think it would work. How are you going to work full time and hike full time? One of the 2 would suffer.

PostQuote from max.patch: “Quote from LIhikers: “I don't have any traditions, about anything. ” I highly recommend collard greens and black eyed peas on new years day. ” I'll run that by the chief cook. I cook very little since the day I set the stove on fire.

Quote from jimmyjam: “Quote from LIhikers: “Anybody know a good way to cut pages out of the book? I need the section from Georgia to West Viginia, which is the front half of the book. There's also a few pages at the very back that I'd like to keep too. If at all possible I'd like the front half to stay bound together. Any suggestions? ” microwave the book. Start with 30 seconds and slowly increase the time until the glue is soft enough for you to pull out the section that you want. Say what you …

The best/worst part (depending on your outlook) is that it hit 51 degrees on my digital, outdoor, thermometer. I sure hope winter isn't over yet. ” Matter of perspective. To me 51 is winter, and I am always hoping for it to end as soon as possible. ” I guess, but having slept outdoors in below -30 F gives you a different perspective on winter.

PostI got out for a short walk in a local county park that has some trails in the woods. It was my first walk on trails since the problem with my left leg. We may have walked only about 2 miles.

The doctor said...
LIhikers - - Trail Health
PostIf you remember, I mentioned that I had my left tibia develop a stress crack while Kathy and I were hiking the Great Allegheny Passage. I saw the doctor again yesterday and he feels that I'm fully healed and am cleared for hiking on trails. In fact after some excercises he had me do he thinks my legs are stronger than most 70+ year old men. I'll try our local county park soon and I see an overnighter in NY's Harriman State Park in the near future.

BSP Question
PostQuote from LIhikers: “I just asked Kathy how long we took and she thinks it was somewhere in the 10 to 12 day range. I suspect most people can do it in less if they want. We purposely wanted to use up our whole vacation. It's not a very hard section, but it's beautiful and we wanted to linger in it. ” Kathy reminded me that timeframes included 2 days in BSP.

It turned out to be easy to cut the Companion into sections as Elf suggested. First thing was to find where I wanted to make the cut and decided to cut right after page 120. I layed the book open and pushed the pages as far back as I could. Then I used a brand new snap-off knife to cut down between the open pages. 2 light passes and it was done. There a few pages at the back of the book I wanted too so I did the same thing back there. Then I put the 2 pieces that I want together and using clear …

Hiking & Biking
PostQuote from max.patch: “lol, if bikers are the same as hikers I'm sure google can take you to plenty of people who will tell you what your bike should weigh empty and what it should weigh fully loaded for touring. ” I imagine Matt C could set me straight
