    Post

My day pack is an old EMS pack that I've been using for more than 20 years. No wonder EMS is no longer what they once were. Their stuff lasts too long.

Quote from IMScotty: “Rented a Toyota Carmry this weekend and mmostly enjoyed the experience except for one major problem... the 'Driver's Assist Technology.' Good grief, I get nagged enough at home, I certainly do not want a car that starts beeping at me if I cross a line. Since all the car companies are doing this it looks like I will never buy a new car again. ” I can relate to what Scotty wrote and feel very much the same way.

I don't have a clue. I don't make any effort to keep track of mileage.

I too played sports, football in the fall (defensive lineman) and ran track in the spring where I ran high hurdles, low hurdles and 1 leg in the mile relay. In my school being a jock didn't get you any extra consideration when it came to academics.

Geez, I almost didn't graduate high school. It all came down to my English final exam in my senior year. I did pass so I got to graduate with my class.

It's good to hear that they are issuing permits for 2021, I'm kind of surprised though due to covid.

I have 2 packs for day hikes, one larger than the other. The bigger one is for winter when I carry extra clothing and a stove, fuel, and pot. It's big enough, barely, to do an overnighter during summer months.

Quote from Traffic Jam: “It’s stupid but I also took a pic of my favorite, insulated coffee container. One of my favorite things in winter is to hike with my hot coffee. I hold my coffee cup with one hand, sipping as I hike, and a trekking pole in the other. ” I'm a big coffee drinker, I should try carrying a thermos.

Actually I'm toying with the idea of having the wife's 1978 VW bus converted to have a Subaru engine installed. Just like the VW engine the Subaru engine is a 4 cylinder, horizontally opposed, engine and it has a lot more horsepower than the VW engine. I doubt it'll happen though as I think the money would be better spent on a new vehicle.

Quote from jimmyjam: “Tough to beat a Subaru. Unless you want a full size truck, then get a RAM or GMC. ” My 2002 Subaru Forester is still going just fine with 424000+ miles. Sure I spend for regular maintenance but that's cheaper than payments for a new car. Nothing unreasonable has gone wrong or been replaced. Kathy thinks she'd like a mini-van but if we go that route I'd hope to find one with all wheel drive and seats that stow into the floor so we could have a flat floor behind the front sea…

Based on the success of the 2 other Tarptent.com tents we have I'm expecting this one to be just as good. We have a Rainbow for when either Kathy or I go out solo, a Rainshadow for when Kathy, me, and the dog all go together and now the Double Rainbow for just me and Kathy.
