Quote from Astro: “Massdrop.com has a Black Diamond Storm Waterproof Headlamp $35.99 if enough commit (originally $49.95). Anyone have one of these? Sounds good, but perhaps overkill for hiking. ” I have the BD Storm. It is a little overkill for hiking. I really enjoy it for kayak fishing at night. I like having a choice of red or green. Sometimes the bugs are attracted to the red or vice versa. Also, I love the options it gives you for the clear light. Especially the tap option for turning it i…

PostQuote from CoachLou: “My brother in law was at our house working on HIS mothers bathroom, 2 weeks ago. He tested positive this past week We went to get tested Saturday, we are negative, Ov went again Thursday to be tested, cause she has a sinus headache .......... ” A bad headache is one of the symptoms. The two of us had a bad headache for over a week. But the worst was our lungs and dropping 02. We're turning the corner now and greatfull things didn't get worse. Two weeks in and still quaranti…

PostQuote from max.patch: “Quote from Dmax: “They have called my wife everyday from her place of employment. Not to see how she's doing, but to see if she would come in and work the Covid unit since she is positive. CDC guidelines are on page with that....... ????? ” I can't come up with the words to describe how stupid that is. Is it possible that the nursing home is misinterpreting the guidelines? ” I had my test done at the department of health. They gave me a few pages stapled together that tell…

PostI've had great luck with Zelph stoves in the past. I've had the starlyte and for the last 10 years or so the super stove. Both will boil with about 1/2 oz of alcohol.

Corona Virus and the Trail
Dmax - - Trail Health
PostI feel sorry for all in the medical field right now. From the top specialist all the way to the laundry, kitchen and everywhere between. A lot of stress and hours and always being short handed. Hard for places to hire in right now. Nobody wants a job at a facility that has Covid.

Corona Virus and the Trail
Dmax - - Trail Health
PostThere are 5 total cases at her facility, plus 6 staff at home right now. She does wound care on two of the residents. They have a good isolation unit for the positive cases. How well protocal is followed, I'm not sure. But I know the few that have to be in contact are very carefull. The other nursing homes in the area have done the same thing since the start of the pandemic. I guess if you don't send positive cases to the nursing homes the hospitals would have been filled to max quickly once the…

PostStill a terrible idea. Here in Tennessee it's still happening. The nursing home my wife works at had two Covid patients received this week. The only thing we can figure is that it is part of a national emergency plan.

PostQuote from Astro: “Actually got a decent view Saturday at one the rest areas on I 24 before you get to Chattanooga. ” if that's Chicamauga I love fishing that lake. Giant Bass! Also located at Chattanooga, and worth checking out, is Ruby' Falls, Rock City and The Lookout. The falls are inside of a mountain. Once you make it back to the falls the turn different colored lights on so everyone can take pictures.appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…d4fd0326b7d72d3d4e8b7be0dappalachiantrailcafe.net/index…d4…

Took a walk today
PostQuote from max.patch: “Quote from Traffic Jam: “It is a great hike but Kimsey Creek Trail that goes from the AT to the Backcountry Information Booth next to SI campground wasn’t super enjoyable. A sign at the trailhead says it’s easy so I expected to cruise along and quickly finish but it was a lie. ” It's a nice loop; glad you were able to finally do it. I like the KCT and have hiked it a bunch. Was it overgrown? I bet it hasn't had any maintenace on it all year. I took my Dad to Standing India…

Snow Skiing
Dmax - - Coffee Talk
PostI tried once. I rented a snow board and hit the practice slope. I never could get the hang of it. I can waterski, skateboard and roller skate. So I figured I could easily learn the skis and I went and traded my board in for skis. Back to the practice slope I went. I did good and didn't have any problems. I knew I was a natural. Skiing was for me. So I made my way to the ski lift. On the way up I was nervous and the gentleman beside me could tell. He explained how to get off the lift when I was r…

Took a walk today
PostI wonder if the hiker was looking for the turn off to the parking lot? I've still yet to hike the Kinsey Creek Trail. I've always taken the lower ridge trail back to the campground. The trail has always been a little overgrown, but easy enough to follow.
