PostI drank too much beer to have "clarity" on where the best steaks were. There is no such thing as a bad steak.

PostOkay. Coming soon (within week). Photos and brief comment on range of tents. Been meaning to do this for a while but IM had "misplaced" my Copper Spur 2 tent poles. 24 hours before Annie pressed button to buy replacements he found them. In interim we found a Fly Creek 3 for sale 2nd hand at a good price and have purchased it. I now have: BA Copper Spur 2 BA Fly Creek 3 Henry Shires Tarptent Double Rainbow Henry Shires Tarptent Rainshadow 2 Six Moons Design Tarptent (I think Lunar Duo will check)…

PostI have said it before but I consider the single best resource I got from tos was Baltimore Jack's 15 mile spreadsheet. Very useful.

PostI was once the "IT guy" (before they were called that) in an office of 30+ people. We had a Wang mini computer with 3 large units containing stacked platters (5?) of discs which gave us something on the order of 200Mb of data. The computer and drives were in their own secure room with two large air conditioning units that ensured a constant temperature and humidity. I had 6 weeks of training to do the job.

PostIn my experience, whilst politicians only have to open their mouths for a high incidence of lying to occur, government departments and agencies generally tell the truth. At least as far as they understand it to be anyway.

PostQuote from LIhikers: “The night we spent at The Inn At The Long Trail I thought the Guinness was the best beer I ever had. Good start to the article TW. I have a feeling your going to use up all your word count before you cover everything. There might have to be a part II. Don't forget to mention the joy of finding a 24 pack cooling in the water source at a shelter, pure delight. ” I spent two nights at the Inn at the Long Trail Bought the t shirt. Guinness is always good. Theirs is about 5 degr…

PostQuote from TrafficJam: “Quote from OzJacko: “Only 52 metres but I came back down so I'm claiming 104. ” What's significant about that tree? It looks like people are admiring it. ” You climb up steel pegs spiraling up it.

PostQuote from max.patch: “re unofficial sites: even though the snp requires a permit, you can camp anywhere that isn't posted "no camping" and you stay within the regulations, i.e., no camping XXX feet by water, XXX feet from a structure, XXX feet from a road, etc. and yes, no camping near the "day use" huts. and when you leave such a site you are required to have followed LNT. all these regs should be spelled out in the various guides. the northern half of the snp was the only place ticks attached…

What Pack do U-Haul
PostYes. The back mesh pocket on the Circuit can carry just about anything you want. But I wouldn't. The sleeping mat is part of my sacrosanct "must remain dry" gear. It goes inside in the completely dry stuff. I use a trash bag liner. I don't trust a pack cover to keep stuff dry.

PostQuote from max.patch: “so i bought a book with a list price of $16 for $10 from amazon. becasuse it has receipes in it, i bought the actual book rather than the digital version. i have prime so shipping is fee. amazon used fed ex to get the book to my post office. they used the post office for the "last mile" of delivery. so the post office fired up the mail truck and the mail carrier made a special trip out to my house -- its a sunday -- to deliver it. this makes absolutely no sense to me. ” Ou…

PostQuote from Da Wolf: “they got 100% ” Just looked at it. Yes it appears they got their target of $10k which is mostly for $9k back taxes. I'm sure I saw a target of $80k for rewiring and other issues and they only had $3-$4k raised. Maybe it got modified. Good luck to them. I liked the place but it wouldn't stand up to a building inspection here. Next time I will drink there but probably not stay.

PostQuote from SarcasmTheElf: “Quote from OzJacko: “To be honest I wouldn't for your article as it appears from recent stuff I've seen on Facebook it will close soon. I suspect 2016 will be the last hiker season to experience. ” Have the owners mentioned closing shop or are you saying that based on their financial problems? ” It's based on the fund raising to "save the Doyle" that hasn't got 10% of the target.

PostQuote from TrafficJam: “Lying in my bag on MP, gazing at the stars, and watching the sunset the next morning is one of the best camping experiences I've ever had. ” We just walked over Max Patch. Didn't fit our mileages to stay there. I think IM and I had a similar experience though when we tented between Hump and Little Hump Mountains. Few do that as it's close to Overmountain shelter, the big barn that we looked at but didn't stay in.

PostQuote from WanderingStovie: “You could aquablaze the Great Allegheny Passage. The C&O Canal Towpath would not work because what little I've seen of it is a series of stagnant pools. You would have to portage too often to be worth doing. ” I couldn't help but think that the C&O Canal was an immense untapped potential for tourism/holidaymaking. It would be expensive but a huge cleanup and "recondition" would make it a fantastic kayaking experience for families etc. Maybe it was because I had just …
