Drybones - - Coffee Talk
PostIf memory serves me, 85 MPH is all that's needed, we don't need a Delorean, JJ could do that with his ,95 heep....and a long down hill stretch.

PostQuote from odd man out: “Quote from Astro: “Quote from Astro: “Fond memories of eating at Homeplace with Hiker Mom and Deer Hunter. ” appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…7e5d1c35a4c196489337aab21 ” when were you there. I seem to recall Hiker Mom said you were there just a couple weeks ” Is hiker mom still around? Seemed like a real sweet lady from her posting, miss her.

PostI'm still pissed at myself for not letting the young lady from CO take a shot of me at McAfee when I went past there...I'm going back there some time in this next year with no other purpose than to get a shot...and maybe eat at the Homeplace which I also missed.

Quote from Astro: “Quote from LIhikers: “In an effort to reduce pack weight I've been examining everything I carry. This past weekend it was our windscreen. The one we've been using I made from aluminum flashing and it weighs 30 grams. I made a new one out of craft foil, the same size as the old one and it weighs 12 grams. I know the weight savings is only 18 grams, what I don't know yet is how it will work or how long it will last. The old one is years and years old ” I have always heard ounces…

Gear Hacks
PostI spent 30 something bucks on one of those zpack bags only to never use it, could have been a great bag if it had a stiff opening edge to fold against, it just wadded up when I tried to use it.

Quote from LIhikers: “My plan is to use the new pad a few times with the sleeping bag as Drybones suggested before making more changes but I thought I'd start collecting info on quilts. ” I have two hammock gear TQ and one UQ, happy with each, except, I ordered the 20* in a long/wide...big mistake, just leaves a bunch of extra material to deal with, which takes away from the warmth. HG has what they call an economy bag made from duck feathers, much cheaper, I have a 40* TQ and a 40* made from du…

Quote from Astro: “Quote from IMScotty: “I use quilts for hammocking. I have a summer set and a winter set, but I have taken to using my winter under quilt year round because I like its full length coverage under my hammock. My best recommendation is to get your top quilt customized to increase the width. If you turn like me getting that cold winter blast of air on your back is no fun if the side of your quilt lifts up. Worth a few extra dollars to get another 6 inches in width. For an under qui…

Quote from LIhikers: “Quote from Astro: “Quote from LIhikers: “I agree, I think the ATC, as well as the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference has responded to the virus in a good manner. What I'm real starting to dislike is how almost every e-mail from ATC asks for money. ” Or even worse promoting political causes that have nothing to do with taking care of the trail itself. ” Yep and that too ” Companies and entertainment and sports should stay focused on their trade, I have a hard time spending…

I use a quilt because I sleep in a hammock but if I still slept on the ground I'd stay with a bag, suggest you use your bag as a quilt first to see how you like the pad next to you, I did not.

I've tried a lot of sleeping pads...this is the only one that works for me.

The way I look at it I'd rather die young and have a life than die old and never live.

I carry a lightweight down jacket I use as a pillow, in cold weather I wrap my head to keep it warm and pull a sleeve over my eyes to let me sleep late.
