My suggestion would be to do Damascus, VA to Massie Gap/Grayson Highlands State Park. It's about 32 miles. Then contact Lone Wolf for a shuttle. You could either park in Damascus, hike to Grayson Highlands then get a shuttle back or park at Grayson Highlands State Park, get a shuttle back to Damascus then hike to your car. I like hiking S > N but you could hike N > S if that's your thing. I actually hiked from the road near Double Springs Shelter to Damascus. Lone Wolf told me where to park in D…

Hiking plan for 2024
PostQuote from odd man out: “I have finalized plans for an August hike in ME. Unfortunately I had to cut back to a one week trip which will not be enough to do the whole HMW. So I will fly to BGR, shuttle to Shaws for the night, after the famous breakfast I will have them shuttle me to a trail head about half way to BSP, probably Johnston Rd? Hike 5 days to katahdin Stream CG (got a shelter reservation.) Up the AT to Baxter Peak, down Abol Trail, shuttle to Millinocket for the night. Shuttle to Medw…

PostQuote from max.patch: “Quote from Astro: “Quote from odd man out: “I've always wondered why refs insert themselves to try and stop altercations. I think it would be better to stand back and take notes. If both benches clear, you eject everyone, both teams forfeit. ” Because it is best to quickly address conflict and move forward. Your scenario could have teams fofeiting multiple games and a lot of lost revenue. ” Seems to me that if teams forfeited multiple games and the program lost money -- th…

Quote from Sarcasmtheelf: “Yep, also I still have no idea why my photos always rotate on this site and TOS. ” I think you do it on porpoise to make us have to stand on our heads I've been doing some expediting lately for my friend who broke her shoulder; I drive and she rides shotgun. Anyway, on Wednesday we had a delivery up to Midland and as we were leaving, there was smoke to the north and east obscuring the skyline. Not sure it was drifting in from Canada; perhaps it was the fires in Graylin…

Walked up to the local pool complex this morning to drop something off to the Aquatics Manager. Staff were working on getting it ready to open this weekend. A duck family, Mama and 7 baby ducklings have taken up residence. Staff had procured new lane lines yesterday and were putting them into the 50 meter. Mama and the babies just hopped over them. Well, one or two of the ducklings had a little trouble and Mom had to give them a boost. Sorry I didn't take a picture but they were cute.

Quote from odd man out: “We saw a mother bear with cubs in Cades Cove, GSMNP today. It was pretty far away, so this is the picture we could get. You'll just have to believe me. ” I believe you. When we camped in Cades Cove for about 3-4 days in 1994, we saw about 8 bears in Cades Cove. Very exciting for our 10 yo daughter.

Took a walk today
PostHaven't been able to get out on any trails but I'm working part-time at the golf course at one of the entrances to the subdivision so now that spring has finally sprung, I've been walking to work several days this week and last. The flowering trees are so beautiful. I've decided I'd like a pink dogwood to replace the pine tree at the corner of the house that grew way too tall and my husband had cut down.

PostMy sister and I are going to hike in the Arc of Appalachia in southeastern Ohio for 4 days next week to see the wildflowers. We're not backpacking as she's reserved a cabin in the area. So, I need to get packed this weekend as we're leaving on Monday.

PostMy friend called me up last Friday to say that her SO was going on a boy's golfing trip to Hilton Head for 5 days and asked if I wanted to do a hiking trip. Well, I didn't have time so I said I could do a day hike. We went on Sunday to Island Lake State Recreation Area. There are about 4 diff hiking trails. I've been on 3 of them and I wanted to do the 4th which is the yellow trail. The yellow trail and the blue trail start from the same parking lot. Friend used the outhouse then we walked a sho…

PostAnd now #15 Princeton beat Missouri to progress to the Sweet Sixteen. The Big Ten went 5-3 in the first round. Three of those teams play tonight: Penn State, Northwestern and Maryland. I don't think any of them will get through to the Sweet Sixteen. Lastly, congrats to the Tennessee Volunteers for beating the Dukies!
