Btw, Hudson and Joe finally came to the conclusion that they hate the cold from this day on. So yes, the over mountain night was pretty cold.. I was fine after I shoveled some 6000 kcal into my system to warm up again. Love the trail so far. Yes its been cold and rough. But I feel my body getting stronger every day. Its not just the *trail legs*. its more like hitting another tier of trail legs every other day my only concern is the food. I eat so freaking much that I soon have to carry a second…

Rough day. We spend the night at over mountain shelter. It was pretty nice until the angry wind got us bad on the shelter platforms. Joe and me were too lazy to go inside so we toughed it out and had a very cold night. The day was windy too. The big days are tough on Joe. He is still humping his bigass pack and WalMart tent around. The weight makes it so much harder for him than for Hudson and me. Still going strong though. Tomorrow we are shooting for kincora or the black bear resort. Hitting D…

We Are on mile 350. Cranking out 20 mile days. Dacota is a good guy. How I know? Well we hiked together since we buddied up at the Fontana Hilton. He is humping a bigass pack and WalMart boots and is still doing better than most of the people we met on this trail so far. And no, I wasn't terribly excited about hiking with a convicted felon when I met him. But he served his time, is doing great and I wouldn't keep hiking with him if I didn't enjoy his company. Nuff said about the haters. Sent fro…

Took my first shower in a week and did laundry too. Last time I did that was at the NOC. Almost felt like an animal hiking all day and 2-3 hours at night. Amazing how good a shower feels... Now at the library in hot springs, wearing my rain pants and waiting for ol Joe. I hope he is ok And didn't catch something bad. Sent from my Windows Phone

We got no snow in the Smokies. We got ice and slush. It was horribad hiking for the first two days. Got better then. I cranked out another 20-something yesterday and 12 today to get to hot springs. Joe had issues with his stomach And his still in the woods I guess. Taking a zero tomorrow to catch up with Joe and another nobo. Then I guess it is Erwin in 3 days Sent from my Windows Phone

Yeah, the ankles are great. but.. I slipped twice already. On mud and a wet rock when I tried to take a picture.. Ye what a moron I am. Taking these risks for no good reason. Both knees are looking pretty beat up. Both are working fine tho! Cranked out some 18 miles today.. Must be the good air out here I hope to catch an early hitch to hiawassee tomorrow so I can be back on the trail later the day. Gotta catch up with these people from Florida! Finally made it out of Atlanta. First Border Patrol and Customs gave me a hard time and then I had to spend the night at the airport because of the *snowpocalypse* (2inches of snow and icy roads really). Was totally worth it. Im with a friend now I haven't seen in 3 years for various reasons. So happy but also sad because I realized how much I missed her Will hit the trail on Monday now because I still have to get a cellphone and other stuff. Anyway.. Dacota Joe, I have your stuff in my back. I …

Hi, I played around with the guide book and noticed that the section from Neels Gap to the NOC has 3 resupply points (Helen, Hiawassee, Franklin). Maybe 4 but Bryson looks like a difficult hitch. Was thinking about starting from Springer Mt with 4 days, making it to Neels in 3 (low miles to make sure ankles are comfortable :)) and picking up a mail drop with 4-5 days there. From Neels it's some 100 miles to the NOC. That seems possible in 6 days? At the NOC I would get two days to make it to Fon…

Quote from DakotaJoe: “Okay, here is another question of the winter wonderland variety: What are the odds that a person is going to need snow shoes on the A.T.? I know that you guys recommended that I get some microspikes, which may or may not happen depending upon if I can get a trail-side job like Mountain Mike advised me to do. Which was excellent information and an Idea that I had not thought of. Also, ice axes. Same question. Exactly how imperative is it to have those as well? As long as I …
