  • Quote from OzJacko: “What to do if someone ingests alcohol fuel thinking it's water - has happened. ” Well, it depends. If its methanol, Ive heard basically get them drunk on ethanol The ethanol is preferentially absorbed by the body, preventing methanol from being I imagine SLX which is 50/50 has a built in safety compared to HEET. Quote from hikerboy: “youtube.com/watch?v=kZjEbvqkxqU ” so my daughter is awaay at college, about 7 hrs away. One day my wife calls me and tells me my daughters car wont start, and shes stranded somewhere. So i call her, get the scoop. She went to eat, drove back to campus, parked, ate in car while listening to radio. Then she went to move her car to another location, and it wouldnt start. She spent a while trying to start it before calling mom. Turns out, im guessing, it probably wasnt in park …

  • If anything goes to court over....$600, the only ones to win are lawyers. A ranger may have been nice to his group and told them to keep it on the down low. But, that ranger had ZERO authority to override and amend rules. Not possible. Jurek doesnt have a leg to stand on for the alcohol, etc. He can argue the crowd wasnt with him. Too bad, everyone could do that. They were there because of him, he caused it, he bears some responsibility. Just because you cant ticket everyone, does not mean that …

we actually have issues at work with some new hires not being able to do their jobs well. The biggest issue.....they dont talk to people, especially older workers, to gather information or learn how to do something. If they can't find electronic information on what they need, I.e from their desk chair, they give up. Digging thru old files, asking experienced employees, even calling people on the phone seems to be a problem. I don't have to wonder why.

  • I expect he thought someone else might stumble on to them, and really didnt want to send the kid on his own. But, very lucky things turned out good. When my son started hiking with me at 11, i had a talk with him about what he would need to do if something happened to me, like a heart attack, etc. Just to put it in his head so there would be no hesitation if the time came. Scouting helped too.

  • its great things turned out ok, but wth were they thinking to wait 2 days, the guy could have had internal injuries and died in hours.

gatewood is known as a good shelter for shorter hikers. but there are problems trying to set up shelter in the rain, if its also your raingear Even with ultralighters, using shelter as raingear is not common for good reasons. OK in summer use, not so much rest of year or at high elevations. Im currently using a similar deschutes cuben tarp that I like.

to achieve a goal, you have to have a plan. It doesnt need to be the best plan in the world It doesnt mean you cant vary from it It doesnt mean you cant change it But you have to have a plan in some form, or you have zero chance A loosely defined plan, is still a plan. Especially when you are aware of alternatives and decision points and have the information to make it firmer as you go. Depending on others to make the decisions for you, based on following them, is a plan too. Making 3-5 day plan…
