Kenny Rogers passed away. After original success with the First Edition went on to more success as more of a country singer and eventually even acted in some movies. I remember him at his peak remarking about the irony of him being a sex symbol as a middle aged guy with grey hair. I was a whole lot younger when I heard that, but now being a middle aged guy with grey hair myself I appreciate it a little more. I hope he died in his sleep.

Saw gas today for a $1.47
That is only a dollar more than it was when I started driving in the mid 70s.

When my Dad was 10, he helped my Dziadzia (grandfather) and Wujek (uncle) build a cottage. There were only dirt roads to access it when I was growing up that were used infrequently. So, when I was about 12, when Dad turned off the local road onto the dirt road, he would let me steer, even though there were several steep turns. He would also let me steer on the way back home until we reached the main road. When I was about 14, he began letting me drive, that is, also use the gas pedal and brake. So, when I took driver's ed at my high school, I was way ahead of most of the other kids.
When my daughter was 14 and we were up north, I took her to a state park during the off season and taught her to drive, mostly in a huge parking lot so there was lots of forgiving space. -

You are shown a map of the AT and asked to click on the location of 10 places. The closer you get the more points you get. If you're exactly right you get 5,000 points (which I got for Amicalola Falls State Park, Blood Mountain Shelter, and the Nantahala Outdoor Center. Each quiz asks for the location of several shelters, which (unless it's in Georgia) I'm not going to know with any degree of accuracy. The questions change each time you play.
I've played twice and have a high score of 16,500. I'm sure one of y'all will beat that soon enough.

I hope you all are doing well.Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -

I just finished a Backpacker issue from last fall...and here is something I've never even considered much less worry about.
A 66 year old man camping with his son found himself lost in the woods at 8,000 ft in Idaho in October in 20 degree weather. No contacts. No shoes. And then he fell in a creek. The reason he got lost? For the first time in 50 years he went sleepwalking.

I really like Dennehy in Cocoon, but he had a smaller role in the really great Never Cry Wolf. If you haven't seen that one you should check it out.
