I read the article. Very nice. I am happy for Joe. His success is the important thing. He changed his life around to become an asset to society. I am proud of him. I just wish there was some mention of his friends here. He had haters elsewhere. He also had supporters here. It is a small selfish thing, I know. Like I said, his success story is far more important.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball.

I gave the author of that piece all the information about this site. He had to cut his story short by 1,000 words to begin with. I had hoped to get it into print, but Digital is good enough for me. I kind of got a little sick of the aftermath after the trail. When I got this job so many people wanted me to give them money and like a sucker i was dishing it off from the get go. I made due with so little when i was on the trail that the money seemed useless to me. Then I had to start paying for things. I pay $2,000 a month for my apartment with everything included. That is not bad. I still clear over $6,000 take home. Everything you need here is so expensive. My Fire Resistant Jumpsuit runs $380, boots $278, and a steak at a restaurant runs me $30 at minimum.

Aww Traffic Jam, thats sweet, but we are hikers, don't be so soft. Once I got settled into this nasty real world routine I got severely depressed. Everything felt so empty. The PCT seemed so far away and that is when the suicidal ideation kicked in. I deleted my facebook account even. All it was was work, sleep, work, sleep, and being alone all the time. I faced my demons with my usual grit and determination. Im back now!"You might not get everything you want out of life, but you will get exactly what you need!"-Dakota Joe 2006 -
Okay guys, I didn't plan a single thing on the AT. I have no Idea where to start planning the PCT. Oh wait, yes I do. Right here! I was planning on the PCT in 2016, but just might head out in 2015. Im not real sure yet. It depends how many weeks off I have saved up by that time. I can rotate out every fourth week. I don't rotate though. I am Nelcon Inc's highest paid, hardest working, and only Real pipelayer. They train their greenhorns to put non potable water systems to supply water to Caliber Mainstream and Whiting Oil here in the Baaken Oil Fields. A non potable water system is so simple that any Whiteblaze Cyberhiker could do it with a guide book. (They still need direction?!) That's merely a ditch hand, or a guy who inserts circle whole A into bell hole B and keeps moving down the trench. I am a pipelayer. I lay potable and non potable water lines, gravity sewer, concrete storm pipe, forced mains, reclaim, and HDPE. I currently hold the Company Record for 20" PVC (poly inylchloride) high pressure water pipe. My top notch crew laid 1,860' ten feet deep into the hard soil. I have gotten two raises since I started working for Nelcon, but they work the proverbial dog feces out of me. I do get everything I ask for, but I only ask for what I need. Im anxious to get to the winter weather to see just how bad negative 40 really is. If i can tough that out then the high sierras temps should be good. Right? I want to go uber light weight gram weenie style. I will have enough funds to deal with any emergency that comes along. So....whats the first step in planning?"You might not get everything you want out of life, but you will get exactly what you need!"-Dakota Joe 2006

No. You just have been hiding too long. Good to hear from you. We are all very happy for you and proud... and quite jealous of if and when you get out on your next adventure.

Yeah, you have to plan out every day of your hike so that you begin to hate your schedule!"You might not get everything you want out of life, but you will get exactly what you need!"-Dakota Joe 2006 -
I have a lot of it on digital Nat Geo Maps. I have both wilderness pres guidebooks which I was able to use their maps. Sure some things have changed since I hiked, like the number of people doing it. Be happy to lend you the books so you can start dreaming about it now. PM me a snailmail address & email address.

someone once thot winged monkey and me were one and the same. i took that as an insult. so did winged monkey.
i also been accused of being wingfoot. what is it with me and screen names that have "wing" in them?
it would not surprise me if the atc had a mini feature story on DJ when they publish the list of 2000 miles next year. in fact, it would disapoint me if they didn't.2,000 miler -

the more i think about this, the more convinced i am that this would make a great story for journeys magazine next year. not every atc member gets their AT news from the internet. even less visit forums.
so i sent em an email this morning.2,000 miler -
Get Yogis 2015 PCT guidebook when it comes out and start from there.
Everything should be in there. She also offers a printing service for the maps.
Once you figured out your resupplies, start packing mail drops.
The other stuff like the water reports will come together before you head out. They also have a little gathering where the water situation and trail angel network is addressed.
Gear is easy. Zpacks, Hyperlight Mountain Gear and other cottages like Enlightened Equipment should get you a setup in the ~6 lbs area. If you can swing it.
Make sure you pack your good old aluminum pot from the AT
All the best
Phil, the lanky and laconic German -
GG (Phil),
You seem to communicate just fine with us. Perhaps the interviewer just wasn't asking the right questions. Or perhaps he just found your use of words to be as efficient as your hiking (covering a lot of ground quickly).
Thanks for stopping in at the Cafe. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

This is not proper.........$hit should not be capitalized...unless it's someone's name.
BTW TJ, do something with that avatar, I keep thinking you're WOO.
