lasportiva is known for climbing and mountaineering shoes and boots.i started out last year wearing lasportiva wildcat trail runners, and found them extremely comfortable, light, quick drying and grippy. the only issue i had was durability as i blew them out after only getting to nantahala outdoor center. i replaced them with a pair of discontinued raptors which had a protective toe rand that increased their durability, without sacrificing traction.this year i replaced those with the newer ultra raptor, that was slightly lighter, and has the same grip.
this year i wore them on my section hike and they performed great. they dry out quickly, they are lightweight, and the sticky climbing rubber, along with opposing lugs on the sole, give it the best traction ive ever had in a hiking shoe or boot, keeping their grip on even the slickest of wet rock.its great to be able to scramble up or down rocks with confidence your shoe wont slip out.the lugs even give it good traction in muddy conditions.
i use green superfeet insoles, to help absorb shock and give better arch support than the manufacturers insoles.i wear darn tough socks with them and this combination has kept me blister free for hundreds of miles. i did have an issue with some minor hot spots after a 20 mile day in the rain, but by morning my feet were fine.
by the time i had hit fort bastian,i could feel that the midsole was breaking down, but other than that the soles were still fully attached to the uppers, and had plenty of miles still left on them. i'll need to replace them before i do another long distance hike, but i got over 600 miles out of this pair, and they still have plenty of life left for day hikes or short sections.
