Park at Yosemite valley and take the JMT[/quote]
That looks like the right spot. I'm assuming water is a problem along the PCT? -

Never been there. Hopefully next year.Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

The PCT through there is the longest strech of trail in the lower 48 that doesn't cross a road. Closest place wou;d be Vermillion Valley resort & take a boat ride to PCT or hike along the lake I believe 6 miles. I did a 14 mile each way side hike to pick up a parcel in Sequoia when I went through there.

however, i was in portland on business years ago and booked a commercial shuttle to the columbia river gorge. the shuttle company called me the morning of the trip and said they were cancelling because the weather was bad and most of their customers had already cancelled.
so i never made it there, but i think it should be on your list of hikes to research.2,000 miler -

I believe the only reason the Eagle Creek Trail isn't the PCT is because it's non equestrian. I don't know of any hiker that didn't blue blaze it. How can you skip walking under a waterfll? The rest of the state is beautiful too! Three Sister Wildreness w/Obsidain Falls. The road crossing at Santium Pass has a rock obsevatory with each window outlineing a volcano. The ones you pass buy each day. After a vieless day hiking in the rain I woke to sunrise glisening off the Glaciers of Mt Jefferson that filled the view from the door of my tent. Then there is Crater lake which had a diffrent "Mood" every day I was there. & Sky Lakes Wilderness that despite the hords of skiters was spectacular.

I have 10 days, including 2 travel days. I'm spending 2 days in Seattle then 6 days in Oregon. On my list so far is Bridge of the Gods/Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Hood, Crater Lake, and Pinot Noir, lots of Pinot Noir.Lost in the right direction.

The PCT experience is changing, much as the AT experience has changed over the years due to increasing popularity.

Hiker Heaven - The Saufley's is now for sale. Glad I got to stay there last summer.
Casa-de-Luna - The Anderson's is now closed. I thought I would be stopping by there this year, such a disappointment.
Scout and Frodo will be closing down their southern terminus operation after this year.
I don't blame any of them. I marvel that they kept it up as long as they did. Still, PCT won't be the same.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,

My next two PCT sections (California section E & F) rated high on the list of hiker's least favorite sections. With a little luck I am going to try to get section E done over New Years.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,

i wonder why the average time for a NOBO is 155 days yet only 129 days for a SOBO. my guess would mostly likely be data error. any thots, scotty?

The annual PCT Hiker Survey for 2020 has dropped.
I'm not sure any of this has any meaning this year, but here it is...

I particularly liked the links at the end that went to last years surveys. The gear guide, for example, has the highest rated gear, most used gear, and lowest rated gear. It also displayed gear comments made by those that chose to do so -- some of those were "interesting".
If you're thinking of buying a Zpack backpack, or a pair of Altra shoes, you need to read the comments.2,000 milerThe post was edited 1 time, last by max.patch ().

Here is a photo of the Donner Pass PCT crossing taken two days ago ( on April 4th, 2023). It is near Lake Tahoe.
I'm thinking it will be a while before the PCT tru-hikers can pass through.
Actually, I'm thinking that no one will be able to complete a true 'on - trail' thru hike from Mexico to Canada this year, although I wish them the best on whatever hike they are able to put together.

We've skied 3 times at Heavenly which has great views of Lake Tahoe. I never needed to use them, but I always carried chains for the car just in case we needed them. At times they are required.
This pic is from 3 weeks ago. They had to dig out the chairlifts.

PCT Hikers can once again apply for a permit that allows them to walk into Canada at the Northern Terminus.
