I'm switching to a skirt. If I also switch to trail runners, will the dirty girl gaiters protect my legs on the BMT? I'll wear 1/4 crew sock with the trail shoes.Lost in the right direction.

They are good for keeping sticks out of your shoes. If they are the ones I suggest, they are so light that you will not know they are there.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -

I use them to protect my feet. My feet are more important. My legs can fend for themselves.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -

I have Outdoor Research over-the-calf gaiters. I leave them home if I'm expecting to hike only an easy or moderate trail between about mid-June and mid-October. Otherwise it's either winter, or mud season, or blackfly season, or I'm going to be bushwhacking or scrambling.
One of my hiking partners hates them, because he keeps wearing through the strap that goes under the boot. I must step differently from him, or something, I haven't had nearly as much trouble as he has. Maybe I'm doing it all wrong.I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here. -
I like to wear gaiters cause they make me look like a real hiker! Actually, I don't wear them much cause I'm lazy. Don't see that much difference on trail, it's off trail that they protect from briars. Wait, this is Florida. You guys don't care bout Florida!

I wear a low cut shoe so they work perfect for just that reason. keeps me from having to dig sticks out. Plus on the FNST walking through the swamp it keeps the grass from loading up on the laces and the sand from piling up in the shoe in the toe box.. I've got almost as many miles with them underwater as I do above. It'll keep the snow from building up on the laces too. They are very light and dry very fast.Changes Daily→ ♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫ ♪♫♪♫♪♫ ← Don't blame me. It's That Lonesome Guitar. -

I had the same OR gaiterd and had same issue with strap. DG gaiters have no strap under shoe to wear off.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -

I have their E-Vent Short version, loved them when I was Hiking the FT, kept all the sand out, and wore them a lot out West, never really had a need for them on the AT... Still has the original straps too... I never do anything right gif.0101 Fish, 2 Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish... -

I wore them in the late 1990's - tall ones in snow and short ones to keep debris out of my boots. I think the strap that goes under the boot broke on one of them but I wore it anyway with no problem. I've looked at the DG website and can't say I would bother with them - maybe they are easier to deal with than they look. (You might be able to tell that I don't jump on the bandwagon for new things!)

I love my gaitors. Treat them with permatin to keep ticks off me, & crap out of my boots or shoes. I use OR & a small piece of tubular webbing as a sacrifial wear area to prolng strap life.
-
Tubular webbing on the straps is an intriguing idea. What kind? Where'd you get it?I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here.
