    • Change of plans....maybe

I've mentioned here that Kathy and I plan to due a LASH on the AT this year, hiking from Harper's Ferry to Springer Mountain. We are planning to start late in April. Unexpectedly something has come up, that we have no control over, that we'll have to be home for. So now we have no idea when we'll be able to get away. I'm disappointed but not giving up hope that we'll still get it done this year. :/
    • I've had more than my share of plans that fell apart. Improvise, adapt, overcome.

You will still have the option of a smaller LASH - correct? Or was your heart set on one big LASH to finish the southern half?
Trudgin' along the AT since 2003. Completed Sections: Springer Mountain to Clingmans Dome and Max Patch NC to Gorham NH

Being from South FL and living in TX, AR, Brazil, Singapore, and China the heat has never been the issue for me.

But if it is, perhaps start at Springer and walk to Harpers Ferry.

Our thought is that we'd like to start as soon as we can. If the heat is high we'll hike slower. When we hiked in PA it was over 100 degrees so we'd take a break in the afternoon and do our miles in the morning and evening.
Shelters come in handy for that, providing an open place sit or lay down in the shade. Still rather sleep in my tent at night.
