Man hikes to the summit of Stone Mountain (Georgia) almost every day for 3 years and loses 200 pounds. He is now going to (attempt to) thru hike the AT starting on May 1.
It's about 1 mile to the top; pretty much a steady uphill. This was my youngest sons favorite hike when he was young becasue there is a snack store on the summit and he knew we'd get him one of those frozen drinks and whatever he wanted to eat. Also it's only a 45 minute drive from the house which is an hour shorter than the drive to Springer. There is also a trail that goes around the base of the mountain that is right at 5 miles.
You can also get a certificate!
Non hikers can also take the cable car to the top and back.
I couldn't help but notice that they avoided shooting the carving on the front of the mountain.
