Seems obvious, but not to everyone, I guess. Enough people were spraying it on their tent (thinking it was a repellent) that Tom Smith published a paper showing bear spray residue actually attracts bears. It is after all made from peppers (food). But that shouldn't keep you from using it correctly. As Smith puts it, I like chocolate milk shakes, but I don't like it sprayed up my nose.
