yup. Today (labor day) is the only day you are,allowed to walk across the bridge. I think the procession is from north to south (or west to east on the NCT).

this year for the first time they closed the bridge to traffic. Before they had two lanes for walkers, one lane north and one lane south. Now the traffic lanes are only for the shuttle busses.

Talkin about bridges...this cool bridge in the Obed section of the Cumberland Trail was slated to be torn down until it was saved by the efforts of the CT conference.Lost in the right direction.

No fording the Macinac Straights. This section of the NCT crosses one of the world's longest bridges and no pedestrians allowed. Got to pay the toll. $3.50 per person includes shuttle service. Or you could take the ferry from Mackinac City to Mackinac Island and the return ferry from the island to St Ignace. While you're on the island, stay at the Grand Hotel. Rates start at $563 per night for a single, three meals and tips included.
