Glamping... Never heard of this before.

OK from what I can find out this is the B&B or Bed & Breakfast of stays in a tent on a farm. Family oriented, you pull up pay the fee and everything is catered to you - but you are in a large canvas or Glamping tent. This appears to be a not new or recent English thing... Not sure of the origin,... Nice way to make some make some money for the farm. By the way most farms in England are very small. This has taken on very well over there - but they have a mild winter and a mild Summer - nothing over 80° F

Thoughts?

10 person tent, almost the size for a Scout troop patrol or an Army squad. With gear.

Yea - cots my best guess. Now that I found this - I have to check out the family videos. I have several KOA that I am informing for insects... this is new.

In Yosemite valley we paid more than that. And it sure didn't look that nice...

Just wait until I got the new tent I ordered for a family car camping trip. According to the specs it can hold exactly two queen size mattresses.

i bought a 4 man freestanding tent for car camping when the kids were little -- you could stand up in it -- you would not believe how loooong those tent poles were.

I grew up thinking camping was all about those giant 100 pound Coleman canvas tents with a sack of aluminum tubing that you are suppose to puzzle together. Seven of us in the tent, it was great fun.

When I was little we had an Army surplus canvas tent. We even put army cots in it to sleep on. Can not imagine how heavy that thing was.

My dad had one of those. He kept it in a wheelbarrow to make it easier to get it to the car.

Those things slept 7-10 people because that’s how many pairs of hands were needed to put the darn things together.

Taking the misses glamping before I head to New Hampshire. I hope my knees don't get out of shape while glamping- it'll be a real challenge.

I considered GLAMPING on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour but didn't like the idea of leaving all of my stuff in an unattended tent while I was out for the day.

No worries... I ended up in a room above the Lord Nelson Brewpub. Cold beer, breakfast and a lock on the door. Mo' bettah.

We have a pop up camping trailer we have used for car camping for years. Now that the kids are out of the house, we thought about maybe replacing that with a hard side (i.e. not pop up) camping trailer, but would want a small minimal one for just the two of us. When I when to camping trailer store, I was appalled at the selection. The very small trailers were for glampers with all the bells and whistles (built in giant screen TV, microwave, etc...). I said we were looking for something that could sleep two and have a stove. They asked about AC, toilet, shower, sink, refrigerator. I said we don't need any of that. For us the trailer is just a place for a bed and to change clothes and set up the port a potty in the middle of the night. We use the awning to get out of the rain and the stove is always used outside under the awning. They said such a thing doesn't exist. Our pop up has lights, an ice box, a sink, water tank, and electrical connection, none of which we use. I don't want to pay thousands of dollars for crap we don't need but no-one makes minimal camping trailers anymore, so it seems.

some of the teardrop campers are promising, but most I can't stand up in. Others are built for glamping. Not sure I'm handy enough to build my own.

There are no dealers for Scamp. You buy directly from the factory. I think they are in Michigan. They deliver for a fee or you can pick up. Casita is similar, made in Texas. There is a web site devoted to both. Fiberglassrv I think.

Casita is built just off IH 45. You cAn outfit as a minimalist unit

Interesting the things kids remember, was car camping a while back with the son and his wife to do some MTB riding in Dupont Forest and had an old blue cooler with me, my son commented on remembering us using it for camping trips when he was very small, I had no idea it was that old.
