There are important details missing from this story ...I bet the guy was making a pipe bomb...just black powder in the open would not blow a hand off...maybe burn the piss out of him.

Still want to know why he had it there in the first place (unless mayhe he was a hunter using the camp)Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -

The situation made me think about the tourniquet thread that Elf started and the misconception about not using them.
I sort of wonder why he wasn't advised to use one when he called for help. Or maybe he was but wasn't capable?Lost in the right direction. -
While it's unlikely we will ever be in that situation, you just never know. Here's a refresher.

Waistband of undies? Waistband of a bra (for the ladies)? Maybe a sock cut lengthwise? All require some prep, would be hard to do if you're the victim.Lost in the right direction. -

I carry a variation of this product (no longer readily available) but was proven successful in action.
While a teen, I was with a nurse when we witnessed a roll over crash with multiple ejected victims. She started me on CPR for one victim while she applied a tourniquet to a nearly severed arm of another victim. She fashioned the tourniquet out of the girl's bikini top. Unfortunately none of the seven victims survived mainly due to head injuries.
Though the experience left me shaken, it inspired me to learn and practice first aide techniques.

While containing some pleonastic material, provides a bit more than the basics.
