Nice article Rasty, I got back to you on the chef thread....
I have a few thoughts on the article... it lacks detail and is on a road mode... there isn't much wrong with that... but I look at it as a novice article vs a professional. I look at Discovery's Moonshine show the same way... a few are professionals.. others are bound to get caught. When I see a professional doing a large moon circle around the site before approaching the site after leaving a few hours I see talent. Tickle... not so much...
As I told Alligator... IF I am stealth camping... you don't have the damn skill to find me.Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you! -
Coach that I believe won't happen there are clear minds over here. I see the difference already.. it reminded me of when I modded.
This is a discussion and we as a group can disagree and agree and that is what makes a great blog!Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you! -

The one instance of stealth camping we did in the Whites was so pitiful I actually considered leaving the fine in an envelope on a tree stump with a Please Do Not Disturb note attached!
-
I know some will doubt it but I stealth camped a couple of times. Couldn't read your signs was always the fallback excuse.
While on the aquablaze a nice sheriff took pity on us foreigners and let us stay in a pavilion that was no camping. Daniel and I pleaded ignorance and need and the others kept their mouths shut to not give away the fact they were American..... :lol:Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait. -

Please post a report on your Whites walk. Or PM me about it. I am walking through there this summer. Yes, I could be normal and just do it. That is not me though. I like to plan and read and compare and consider and plan and...Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -
Yes I agree that's a separate thread. gif.002

As I dig into the tree strap problem here is a similar set up in the open...

I have stealth camped a few times. IN Crater Lake NP after a late dinner where a German couple we shared a table with bribed us with wine & their leftover pizza to hear about our hiking adventure there was no way we were going to do the miles to the closest legal camping site. Michele & I walked into the woods till we could barely make out the lights from the buildings. Cowboy camped & packed up at first light. Caffeteria was still closed so Michele suggested we try the lodge for coffee. We got a caraft of coffee for what two cups would have cost ay the caffeteria. We lounged in the rocking chairs on the deck overlooking the lake as the sun rose!

MM correct me if I am way out there... I enjoy hanging out with others, but don't want to crowd their experience. I have another issue snoring so I hang as far way from others as I can - I love the camaraderie and avoid being too much to others.Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you!

It is amazing to me how much cycling with a pack on and hiking with a pack on are so much different. I have ridden my bicycle from Port Charlotte, Florida to Northwest Georgia twice now taking two different routes. The first time I rode up the Gulf Coast and then to the center of Florida to a town called Citra. From Citra I went back to the Gulf Coast and rode out to the Panhandle and visited a town called Altha. From Altha I rode to Amicalola Falls State Park up the Western side of Georgia. I got from Marianna, Florida AFSP in 7 days riding time. This last time I left from Port Charlotte and went to Englewood and up to Tampa. From Tampa I went to Altoona which is in the Southern region of the Ocala National Forest and then headed over to Ormond Beach on the Atlantic. The ride up the Atlantic was tough due to days of heavy headwinds. I then rode to across Georgia to a town called Canton. The bicycle ride was amazing and I saw a whole lot of amazing sights. There was a whole lot of crazy wet weather days, like my trip across St. George Island. I mostly stealth camped everywhere I went. Sometimes stealth camping is not all it is cracked up to be. I remember one morning I woke up and poked my head out of my tent and there was a lady watering her flowers and looking at me. The night before I was so tired I just pitched my tent in a dark section of woods that I thought was vacant. Needless to say I just rolled up and moved on. In Smyrna I woke up to surveyors hacking a path to get some shots for an upcoming construction project. That was the most hilarious moment I have had while stealth camping. One guy was like "Hey, there is somebody camping over there!" His buddy replied "No there isn't man, get the shot." I hurriedly rolled up camp aware of the charge that is dubbed urban camping in the Metro Areas of Atlanta. On my way out I heard the first guy say "I swear that there was a tent over there just a few minutes ago." and the second guy say "Man, did you drink too much lastnight? There aint nobody over there!" Ah, the art of stealth camping is comical, but sometimes scary. When you think you are alone and waltz upon a homeless camp then the back of your neck becomes like a forest of hairs standing on end. I don't know why I just shared that completely random story, but I did."You might not get everything you want out of life, but you will get exactly what you need!"-Dakota Joe 2006

I loved every last minute of it thanks to quick release tires for tube changes!"You might not get everything you want out of life, but you will get exactly what you need!"-Dakota Joe 2006 -
Perhaps you are aware tube changes come from not having enough pressure in the bike tire. This resists spiky things... mine are 75psi rare did I get a flat... but I played in traffic.Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you!

The Psychology of Stealth camping... Perhaps this video should be renamed. Have you ever seen a video and said - whoops I could have done this! Wow he covers all the bases. Please watch the end.

When and if I ever do the hike to Ohio I know there will be sections of trail where camping isn't allowed.
I won't say that I plan on stealth camping in those places because then it won't be a secret.........

Kinda like "the check's in the mail" -
Its not hard find a water source near sunset, once obtained walk off trail. Look for trees with hiking poles extended and you can make it a hammock spot. Best informative video for hammock
