I could not find Elf's original thread to post this in. At the time I avoided posting anything, because anyone who knows anything about Virginia politics knew this unilateral desicision by the Attorney General to end reciprocity wouldn't stand. In Virginia the General Assembly wields the power, and it was a pleasure to see the greasy sh**stains that are the Governor and the AG turned into the General Assembly's little b*itches.

The new law removes from the AG the ability to carry out such shenanigans and recognizes all state issued carry permits, and obligates agreements be created where necessary. We will get the 25 reciprocities we would have lost, but gaining others that we have never had such as Georgia, New Hampshire, and Colorado. This new law means that while Virginia's permit would still not be recognized in New York, NY's concealed carry permits will be recognized in Virginia.
As far as what was supposedly given up with regard to those with protective orders against them, that was never truly an issue. Federal law already required gun owners to give up pocession of their firearms during the duration of a protective order. As far as State Police being at gunshows, another non-issue. State police have always been present to facilitate background checks -- though of course it'll be played as somehow closing the gunshow loophole.
There are still a few questions to work out. Reciprocity was supposed to end today March 1 and the new law comes July 1.

Of course I talk to myself... sometimes I need expert advice.
