The most I've commuted was an hour. I don't know them personally, but there are people living in the Biloxi, Mississippi area who commute to New Orleans, Louisiana and Mobile, Alabama every day. Not both cities each person, just one.--

I'm 12 miles from work and it takes me about 15 minutes to get there. Sometimes I take the back roads and look for bear and deer. that takes about 20bacon can solve most any problem.

Both very easy commutes. My first real job, I commuted for a while from Mobile to New Orleans, then I moved to New Orleans and met a girl from Biloxi, so I began commuting weekends to see her (couldn't stay over because she was still living with her mother). Lotta miles on my old Fairlane.

My commute isn't bad, it the last 6 miles that kills me. I could cover that mileage in either 10 mins or an hour..usually on average it takes about 45 mins to cover those 6 milesRIAP

I am sorry for you guys with the long commutes. Hopefully you like books on CD, podcasts, or the radio.
Except for when living outside the USA, I have always made it a priority to not be more than 10 minutes away.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

I spend 3 to 4 hours a day in the car to do a round trip commute of 134 miles. It's killing me.

If it wasn't for the fact that I love the kind of work I do I'd quit the job.
If there was anyplace closer to home that needed a helicopter mechanic, I'd be willing to work for less $$ than I do now. -
Annie travels 73km (45m) each way each day. Takes her about 55 min each way. Traffic is not an issue. It's a major pain but she listens to lots of cd books.Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait.

When at the Pentagon, I had a similar commute. Luckily for most of the tour I was in a carpool and only drove 1 week of 3.

My commute is easy. Takes about 15 minutes. Two red lights and three stop signs.
As for the OP. I've always found that strapping a 25lb backpack on and walking up and down mountains all day as a pretty sure fire way to build my endurance.RIAP -

I had a job with a commute like that, rented an apartment during the week and came home on week ends, one good thing about it, had a gym across the street from the apartment, I did cardio at 4:30 in the morning and weights at night...had nothing else to do but get into trouble so I stayed at the gym a lot.

I just use the "shot glass rule" on an old esso road map from 19 hundred 58' if it falls out side of the shot glass, it's a job for someone else.
