I talked to my friend yesterday about the Malinois. I got the story a little wrong (hey it was over 10 yrs ago).
Her husband was an undercover drug cop who got accepted to k9 cop school and got an untrained Malinois. The dog wasn't doing well in school. The husband was asleep when the friend tried to wake him up and the dog attacked her. The dog was sent away...not their choice, the police departments.
Despite all that, she said;
They are great dogs but full of energy and very smart. He was protecting my ex while he was asleep. Have to be willing to spend a lot of play timeLost in the right direction. -

Last week Annie and I ended our 3 years without a dog. We have a new (old) dog. She is 14 years old and half collie, half border collie. Her heartbroken owners moved last Saturday and she was scheduled to be put down on the Friday. I got her on the Thursday.
She is a wonderful animal but obviously no longer boisterous. Hard to tell but I think she has at least 2 or 3 years left in her.
Our place is perfect for her.Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait. -

Here's a glimpse into Drybones future:
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -

Most people don't want an old dog because of the potential problems that they might have.
I hope the dog enjoys her last years with you and you enjoy too. -

Among the best dogs I've owned, were those from shelters. Picked up a Brittany a while back that was the best bird dog. I didn't train her and didn't know her history, but fellow hunters would take her hunting and favoured her over their multi-K bird dogs. On her nearly last outing with, she pointed a pheasant that three other dogs had bypassed. Unfortunately a few months later she became stricken and died in my lap.

This was my passion growing up in MS, my dad and I would hunt daylight to dark, had to have some great dogs to go as long as we did, the birds we shot were not tame like the ones in the video, you had about one second to get a shot, they were fast and they zigged and zagged.
I may grow old but I'll never grow up. -

I've had two of these, fun dogs, as hard headed as my wife, they love to fight, doesn't matter if they win or lose, they just like to scrap, had an airedale and doberman at the same time....was interesting.

As we have a daughter with that name she became Tess when I picked her up.

Both beautiful dogs.
Never seen an Australian Shepherd in Australia.
Go figure.
Border Collies do come in brown and white and black, brown and white. But the tricolour versions are still predominantly black and not as pretty as that dog.Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait. -
