Fish - love fishing... Hunt? no gun... Air 22 for pest control around the house... easier to hunt with a 380 cc engine and 55 mph round here... the Deer are hopping in front of you for the opportunity to be on the dinner table...Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you!
-
Fishing was my major obsession as a kid, but over the years it was replaced by backpacking. I'll still fish a little now and then, bit I just don't find it as fun as I used to.
I started deer hunting last year, I love having venison in the freezer year round, especially when all it takes is a shotgun and a food vacuum sealer.Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -
I fly fish just for fun.
Plenty of great fishing anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour from our place. You can fish year round in the Smokies except on tribal land. -

I do both...curious how many folks here combine their time in the field with food collection and/or predator control.
Did a ton of both and trapping growing up. Quit trapping as a young man. Stopped hunting after my stepfather died in hunting accident in 1992. Still fish when I can.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -

Sorry to hear that. I know a couple other people that quit after a hunting accident.
That would make it hard for me to continue, too.
My dad got me started hunting and fishing when I was just a young boy. I haven't fished in almost 7 years now. Just lost the desire to go. I still hunt as much as I can. As far as predators, coyotes really didn't show up where I am until about 8 years ago. The population seems to be expanding. I guess they are here to stay. -

I went hunting the next year a couple of times. It just wasn't the same. It was something we did together. It took the wind out of the sails.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -
As a kid I fished alot and growing up in southeastern Virginia it was a lot easier to get out and go fishing. Grab the poles and jump on our bikes and go to one of the local lakes, rivers or canals. My dad originally taught my brother and I to fish with cane poles and I had a fondness for them. Remember our boy scout backpacking trip in 1987 included a couple days fishing on the Tye River. Now its been 20+ years since I went fishing.
And while I loved fishing I hated fish. Oh god! I couldnt stand the smell or the taste of fish.
On the otherhand I never really enjoyed hunting. My dad hunted a lot when i was a baby and almost got out of the Navy to be a game warden. And as my brother and I grew up he hunted less and less. He tried to introduce me to hunting but I didnt enjoy it so much. My brother and an uncle though are avid duck hunters. And my aunt was a big time archery hunter.
I didnt care for hunting, but I do love tinkering with guns.Of course I talk to myself... sometimes I need expert advice. -
I do not hunt, fish, or play golf.
I remind my wife of this every time she gets "concerned" about the money I spend on hiking equipment or transportation to go hiking,The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Reminds me of when I was looking into getting a mountain bike. I had a supervisor that was big into biking so I thought I'd get some advice from him. When I asked what he paid for his bike he hehawed around and tried to change the subject. First he said "I don't drink, hunt, fish, chase women, smoke, etc., etc., ....then told me the price. Every time I went to Rattlesnake Hill outside Dansville, NY I either saw him or his fresh tracks.....he got his moneys worth from that bike, no matter what it cost it was a great investment.I may grow old but I'll never grow up. -

I had a friend who spent more time searching the water for balls then actually playing. He'd say go on ahead I'll catch up. then he'd be getting balls out like crazy.
