Here is what I remember.
1. orange/red pack, could be a orangish brown. Dark red unlikely.
2. external frame with cotter pins and wire spirals for adjustments and to hold pack to frame.
3. 2 inch thick waist belt. Not sure of closure.
4. 5100 to 5300 cubic inches.
5. one main compartment and 5 external compartments.
6. the flap pocket could hold a map, a compass, and a very thin packet of bandages.
7. the 4 side pockets: same sizes on both sides.
the upper pocket was around 4" tall, 4" wide, and 2 inches deep.
the bottom pocket was 4" wide, 2" deep, and tall enough to put a 1 quart/liter fuel bottle in it with some room left over.
8. no leather patches anywhere on it.
9. the pins allowed the chest straps to be moved for wide or narrow. Not many adjustment holes, probably 3 or 4 for each strap. No sternum strap.
10. The sleeping bag went inside, not enough room for a sleeping bag on the pack at the bottom. The pack didn't go all the way to the top of the frame.
11. All pockets were closed with nylon zippers with a small rain flap, except the map pocket which was covered by that flap that covered the opening to the main compartment.
12. I had thought it was a Kelty, but I haven't been able to find a Kelty of the color backpack I had.
13. no plastic pieces anywhere. The zipper pulls were metal.
14. Cordura Nylon, rather thick and shiny.
I looked at a number of web sites, including ebay, for around 2 hours. No matches, although the Kelty Tioga did come close.
I did email the company/supplier I remember buying most of my gear from back then, they had no record of that type/size backpack.
Any ideas ?
Thanks !
