I just found out that my sister has been invited by Slam Allen to play harmonica with Big Sam's Funky Nation in the James Cotton tribute concert at the Berks Jazz festival at the Reading Inn in Reading PA this Saturday (April 13, 2 PM). Slam Allen was the band leader and lead vocalist for the James Cotton Band. Cotton was one of the top blues harmonica player (he died a couple of years ago), so to be asked to cover his classics at a tribute concert is quite an honor (and a little intimidating), especially since she is an amateur who mostly just plays locally. This would be one of her first ventures into national visibility. She has obviously attracted the attention of some prominent musicians. Her day job is software development in the financial industry.
