If I ever get to do it, I hope to hike from NY city to my son's place in Ohio. Most of the way will be on hiking trails and the North Country Trail will be my route through Pennsylvania.

My plan would take me on NY's Long Path north to The Finger Lakes Trail west, the North Country Trail southwest through PA to the Ohio border and then ?
I may grow old but I'll never grow up. -

I've hiked the part of the NCT that is part of the Jordan River Valley pathway. I'd like to do more. Need to do some research, get a guidebook and/or maps.

I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here. -

It's a pity that you'd be turning left after just starting the best part of the Long Path. The hundred-mile stretch from Riggsville to Conesville or so is some of the best hiking anywhere. All you'd get of that is Bengle Hill, Peekamoose, and Table Mountain. Yeah, I know, you have a destination in mind and I'd be taking you eighty or ninety miles in the wrong direction. But ... the Burroughs Range. Cross and Romer Mountains. Mount Tremper. The eastern half of the Devil's Path (surely the best part). Huckleberry Point. Kaaterskill High Peak. The Great Wall of Manitou (including Blackhead and Windham High Peak). Huntersfield Mountain. Just incredible.I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here.

I did the Manistee River Trail / NCT loop last weekend. Great fall colors. Did 17.5 miles of the 20.2 mile loop on Sat finished Sun morning.
