Walk down the street in many cities + towns and you'll be on numerous "security" cameras.
It's a federal offense to vandalize or damage any registered aircraft, but most of these drones are not a registered aircraft so who knows what would happen if you caused one to crash. There could be a whole new field of law, and law suits, for lawyers to explore. I think it's a Colorado town that actually passed a law making drone hunting legal. -

also, you are correct, for the most part, regarding there not being a expectation of privacy when in public. The catch is if the drone films you from a place that a person would not be able to normally see you there may be a legal issue. For instance- someone has a tarp set up as a four sided shelter to use as a shower or changing area. Someone flies a drone above it and films the person inside.RIAP
