Very few people listen to records anymore.
When I was younger I had a bunch of 45s then switched to 8 tracks, then cassettes, then CDs then.....Oh, not that kind of record, huh?

does anyone else see the irony of attempting an "unsupported" hike while at the same time begging for money on gofundme.com?

Gonna have to think on that one a bit. -
ok, I thought about it...firstly, I could care less what someone does. But I'm not into the whole go fund me thing, but that's just me. I gave a pair of spikes to Dakota joe, and some other things to folks, but if you don't have money to hike...join the fuggin team, me neither
Now on unsupported support, and again I don't care, but I don't see it as support directly leading to ones success, I gotta think a person going for an attempt isn't coming off trail with mafunsalow. That said it's likely more of an deferment of cost so to speak... Still it is odd though in my book, or as you say ironic.
In looking at Joey's page it says he'll donate what is not used to the folks in Nepal. The post was edited 1 time, last by Socks ().

its no different than comparing camping to backpacking. i just can't sit in one place for more than a day or so.its all good -

What are some of the longest distances a crew would have to hike in? Wouldn't more than one crew be needed at certain times?
- in the Wilson valley
- about half a mile south of Long Pond shelter
- at Katahdin Iron Works
- at Frenchtown Road, a mile or so past Logan Brook shelter
- at Crawford Pond
- at Jo-Mary Road
- from several access points in the Pemadumcook/Nahmakanta area
That's one of the reasons that I claim that some of the Adirondack routes are more remote. There are places on the ADK trails where it's forty miles between road crossings, with no shorter way out than the trail. (By the way, Northville Placid Trail - which has two of those sections - is runnable, and there's one ultra-runner who's announced this year that he means to go after Sheryl Wheeler's fastest known time.)

Still think he should have started SOBO, and get the toughest stuff out of the way first. I also think LW (or Da Wolf) has excellent points about backpacking experience and having an experienced crew. MW also had has made some good points about the challenge of his age (past his prime).
If placing a wager, I would doubt his odds of success. But he seems like a neat guy, and I wish him well and look forward to the updates. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

BTW, I noticed that based on Scott's miles and times, he is averaging 3.7 mph over 4 days. I assume he is running faster than that and taking breaks to average 3.7 mph. It is interesting to compare this to JPD's strategy of walking briskly all day. If that causes less wear and tear on the body, maybe it's a winning strategy. -
Appalachian Trail Day 5 update: Started the day with old and new friends at Newfound Gap at 6:49am EDT, arrived at Lemon Gap at 11:04pm EDT, 16:15:59. 52.7 miles, 11,627' ascent and 11,702' descent. Enjoyed seeing the rest of the Smokies and got a good dose of thunderstorms well into the night. No cell reception from Lemon Gap, hence the delay. Hoping I can end a little earlier tonight to catch up on some sleep!its all good
