Going down the Nutbuster isn't so bad, it is a slow adventure. Up it would be harder for sure. It is the Slickrock Creek Trail on the south end. It starts a little past an overlook and continues until you get down to the old road bed. One you get there it is normal again. If I remember right, it is only about 2.0-2.5 miles of really hard trail in there.

Quote from Just Bill: “Quote from hikerboy: “honestly, although it gave you a good picture of thru hiking, i found it rather depressing and indulgent, but i find most at books read that way.” Thought I was the only one.... Not that he cares, and no offense to SGT ROCK- but he can easily console himself with creating the single greatest guidebook in history.” No offense taken. I agree. Awol's guidebooks ended up doing something I had wanted from guidebooks for a while. I was not satisfied with the…

If you have the reroutes and bypasses I've put up for download then there isn't much major you probably don't already know about other than a loss of a couple of services and the gain of a couple more. The only other big change is the Smokies reservation system and I'm sure you have that figured out by now.

The shipment of the 2014-15 BMT Thru-Hikers Guides (c) hit tomorrow. Household 6 approved putting up the new order page so we can start taking advance orders and ship them when they come in this week. I just uploaded the new front page image to the BMT Guide website: http://bmtguide.com/ cover_shot_small1.JPG

Quote from Mountain-Mike: “Not looking good for me to hike entire BMT this spring. I might have 3 weeks off between shows. Trying to rethink what I can do & figure out logistics. Thinking of doing it backward (southbound) Maybe Fontana or Deals to Springer. I"ll know more in a month. So much for easy shuttle arrangements. Anybody have any recommendations? I would be coming in by bus to??? Good news is I'm going back to work for an old crew & will be traveling a limited schedule of shows & be bas…

In the past few weeks some hikers have expressed interest in hiking the new BMT route ahead of its June opening. In an effort to provide current route status so hikers can make informed decisions, I've created an update one can read and decide if it is worth the hassle to hike the new route and have some maps they can print to use if they do so decide. I expect this information to update regularly, so stay tuned. Here is the first installment of "The State of the Trail Report"

FWIW, when I short term resupply. That means you can get stuff like snacks or maybe microwave food that is refrigerated or frozen, and usually not a lot of selection and/or quantities. Long Term is stuff that will last. Some Long Term resupply points don't have the greatest selection either. Something I noticed on my last trip to Fontana a couple of days ago was that the gas station on the corner is also carrying some stuff that I would consider Long Term resupply. They probably get the winter A…

For those that are interested in hiking this reroute before the thing is completely built: Tomorrow I am heading out to flag the trail so the crews can orient on it as they work. If you get out there before it is done, there should be orange flagging tape to orient on. I'll report a status when I get back Monday.

When this spring are you thinking about doing it? Above 2,000' in early spring its more like winter up there. If it is before the underbrush starts to come out then it is something that could be done if you are not in a hurry. If you wait until after it starts to get green then it might not be so easy. We start working clearing trail in April.
