Revisiting this topic after reading a new article. The article pretty much summarizes the myths about filtering and provides some scientific evidence around the issue. Choice is still yours, but I personally recommend washing your hands after the privy/cathole and not allowing another hiker to put their grubby paws in your open trail mix. Filtering is optional. Just look up hill and see if there might be a farm or beaver pond - if so, filter; if not, live on the wild side. https://slate.com/tech…

He donated because she helped him on his 2 thrus and he wanted to help. He had no expectations of anything in return. So, moral of the story is if you don…

Tin Man - - Coffee Talk
PostOn 9/11/01 I was working in mid-town Manhattan. People flocked to the conference rooms to watch the aftermath of the plane strikes. One employee went into uncontrollable hysteria when the first tower went down. Her sister worked in the area and she couldn't contact her - later it turned out she was alright. I called my wife and told her I would be home as soon as I could. She received several calls from panicked friends asking about me. My boss was in charge of the emergency team and I was his r…

Quote from IMScotty: “Quote from Bo Peep: “I was around mile two of my hike yesterday and was running when I heard a crashing sound in the shrubs to my left, less than 10 yards away, and spied two brown animals out of the corner of my eye. My first thought was bears but it was two large, well-fed Rottweiler’s with collars. I stopped running and turned towards them. Within a span of three seconds, I thought, “They are bears...oh no, they are Rottweiler’s! damn, I wish they were bears, I know what…
