Close to another foot of snow in most ski areas, which is good as the snowpack is still only 50% of typical. As the latest snow was very dense, the avalanche threat is very high. The prediction is folks will trigger one or more avalanches this weekend. Hopefully no fatalities will occur.

I hesitate to recommend such a jacket. Layering clothing items works for me. My outer layer is a rain jacket as necessary with an inner fleece layer. Might try hiking in various weather conditions to determine what’s best for you. Additionally might consider a flip flop hike to avoid some of the extreme weather conditions at start/end points.

They would just pass more laws to protect themselves and leave the rest of us out ” This is another day of being pissed at politicians for me, found out that any money allocated for prisoner food that is not spent goes into the sheriff's pocket....$750,000...the son of a biatch just bought a beach house at Orange Beach with my tax dollars...talk about ways to encourage cor…

PostQuote from Bo Peep: “My latest scone creation...chocolate espresso. When reviewing the photo, I realized the sparkling sugar looks like salt which gave me the idea to (next time) sprinkle them with sea salt and drizzle with caramel sauce. I couldn’t help it and ate one this afternoon (after drinking a cup of coffee). At spin class tonight, I started having palpitations from the caffeine and chocolate, lol. It only lasted 15-30 seconds. ” Might try drizzling the caramel first and then sprinkling …

PostHave two Morakniv knives I bought in Sweden long ago. One is paring size while the other is just at 9”. While not considered a true chef knive, they serve a wide variety of roles in the kitchen. Made of high carbon steel, both stain easily unless cleaned after use but are easy to sharpen. They each have a sheath which enables secure packing when car camping.

Quote from Bo Peep: “$9.56. I can buy one sock. Desperately need new socks. ” Thought you had knitted several pair. Talked to one of the volunteers at one of the local homeless shelters yesterday. She said they had followed the suggestion of returning ragged pairs of DT socks for warranty replacement and the package arrived earlier in the month. On an another note, apparently folks in need of socks, sort through the donation box, select the least ragged ones, and layer them to offset the holes.

PostOn a typical bike ride, Starbucks and DD are bypassed in favor of a local coffee shop. The proprietor specializes in smoothies and in-house pastries while roasting coffee beans. The aroma is irresistible.

Hiking & Biking
PostI did the same when in grad school. Parking fees were outlandish on campus plus the first portion of the commute was fast and heavy traffic with no shoulder. Once on campus, stopped at the fitness center, showered, changed clothes, and went to class. When I needed to park on campus (library and labs), I used a piece of paper under the wiper to mimic a ticket. Received one parking ticket in two years and had it invalidated as it was written the afternoon of a football game.

PostA buddy has this bike and he’s very happy with it. In fact so pleased, he equipped it and rode across the US last summer. He initially thought no fenders...extra weight, but after several days in the rain he grew exasperated with mud coating the bike and him. He picked up a set of plastic fenders and using hardware store metric fasteners along with zip ties, finished the trip with no issues. Rather than enduring the expense of panniers, he mounted a pair of kitty litter plastic containers to a r…
