BB- another thought- You may consider your design in miniature- I'm sure there would be a few scaling down changes but the basic design and layout should work. Red-bull is the main can as that was the only mini-can when it came out- but Diet Pepsi, V-8, and generic (aldi) red-bull can be had for much cheaper if you have to resort to purchasing. Might be just the trick for the smaller pots. The Bird hippocampus has a horrible ring to it though.

Quote from rocksNsocks: “Books on Navigation and Compasses Be an expert with Map and Compass~Bjorn Kjellstrom a title I have had on my shelf for many years” An excellent read. When you can find them- I always recommend the Boy Scout Orienteering Merit Badge Book- sounds silly but cheap book, easy read, and obviously geared for beginners. Good way to get going without getting bogged down too much before you geek out too much on the real books.

Still a big fan of Altra's- Lone Peak or Torin for extra cush, contemplating the superior for training. Currently use Merrell Bare Access for training or hikes under 15 miles. Hit up the merrell outlets- many around. They have Mix masters (4mm heel) for $40. Astro- those were the NB that Matt Kirk wore. 1azarus- tendon issue sounds more like bad shoe- especially if you wear zeros in the winter. Zero drop tends to be kinder on the feet. But as HB said- lots of trail runners with 4-12 mm of heel o…

Not that I got the impression- but worth making clear either way- Your stove is awesome, one of the better ones I have seen. Even though I don't go with an Alchy stove, it was time well spent and a good skill to have, your passion made me want to share my two cents if it's any help and just because they aren't the perfect stove for my UL speedy style doesn't mean they aren't the perfect stove for many people. FWIW- I also found the same results as you- 5/8" (roughly) and 32 holes was just right.…

Hey, I've never knit a wristband in my life, but the copulating porcupines would be cute on a pair of socks.” And you call yourself a knitter... Shame.

I believe I was also a victim of his "everlasting gumdrop" scam. He tried to buy a skirt off me recently and offered six of them as payment. If one lasts for ever why do I need six?

Quote from hikerboy: “im getting dehydrated just listening to all this stuff.” Rasty made another batch of dehydrated water- you should have some in the glass in the cabinet. Just add water and you're all set.

Quote from Rasty: “I found out the hard way that mango puree with corn syrup won't dehydrate” You spread it all over yourself and stood in the sun? That's definitely the hard way.

Yar- you're already well on your way to a fine trip. May swingers invite you into their home at every turn.

  • Yar- beans are a winner. I suppose my problem is winter is stockpile time- so I end up buying lots of stuff at once and turning into a slave to the dehydrator. If I could do the odds and ends approach a bit more often things would be better. As fer the canned veggies- I don't have much luck with anything but corn and pasta sauce- everything else tends to turn pretty gloppy for me by the time it goes from can to pack to dinner plate. Nutrition is there, but the texture and flavor compared to froz…

I know- which is why it's fun to poke fun, which is why we're here mainly I believe. An honest question as I kinda know but don't know- Did you feel you got up to full blown "trail legs"? You may surprise yourself. Other than that- in all seriousness- skipping towns is the best way to stay out longer- lightening up is the best way to carry extra food to accomplish that goal. Starting a bit later tends to let you move faster too (and save more bucks), with the weather this winter that is going to…

Yar- sound advice. Gotta flush those out a bit anyway into full tales. Took my own advice and dumped my "tales" type stories into a separate document yesterday- came out to 100 or so pages without filling in some of the other stories that didn't quite fit into my full book. Should format out to a 200/300 page paperback depending on the paper size. Saw your bump- maybe time to float out a few on here and see how she goes and see how to shape up the rest of the book. I'll get a few for ya to post.
