Hiking & Biking
PostQuote from Dmax: “I know two people riding Ragbra this year. If unfamiliar with Ragbra, it's a ride across Iowa. I couldn't imagine trying to do it this time of year. So much heat and so many strong storms in the heartland. ” It sounds like an improvised undergarment.

I suspect everyone is different. I lost a dog when I was a minor. I told my neighbors, I cried, and then I was fine. I have carried other pain for most of my life, but it has nothing to do with death. If you blame yourself or someone else for your loss, it is much harder to move on. I hope that is not your case.

Quote from Drybones: “Quote from TrafficJam: “Quote from TrafficJam: “I thinks it's dead . Held it in my hand for a while and it didn't move and it's dried and hard. ” I just realized how that sounds,,,it was definitely unintentional. Sorry if it upset anyone's sensibilities. ” Damn!!!...I've found a woman who's mind is deeper in the gutter than mine! ” TJ's bread is sponge-worthy.

Quote from NoAngel: “Quote from Drybones: “Quote from NoAngel: “Quote from TrafficJam: “I've been organizing my old pots and half-full bags of hummus/potting soil so I can start some herbs. Its a little late but I'm going to try it anyway. There's an herb farm I plan to visit to buy some plants. If you had to list 10 essential herbs, what would they be? I would like a combination of cooking and medicinal, preferably multipurpose. I have a strawberry jar that I'd like to put herbs in, any suggest…

PostQuote from NoAngel: “Quote from WanderingStovie: “Quote from NoAngel: “Heading out for another ride in the heat. The missus says "your riding in this heat, you're crazy". I replied, tts only a hundred. Maybe I am. ” A wet towel helped me when I rode to work in Virginia Beach. ” I drink about quart and eat a snack before I ride and carry (2) 16 oz waters- that's good for about an hour ride for me. Beer afterwards to re-hydrate. ” I drank a gallon in one shift pulling glass out of an annealing fur…

PostQuote from NoAngel: “Does anyone bikepack by just putting on their hiking backpack and riding their bike? I would like to do it but I don't want to buy a bunch of new gear. I'm used to having sweaty back with a pack on it. ” I do it by loosening the shoulder straps. You may want to carry less weight than you would hiking. A rear rack is a good place for the heaviest items, or hang a stuff sack in front of the handlebars. Any extra weight on your back will leave you butt hurt, unless you have a w…

I've been sleeping in a OR Helium body bag plus two layers of nylon (jackets and pants). The weather is too warm for a sleeping bag, liner, blanket, or even a sheet. I shiver a little in early morning, but get up before the sun, sometimes at 4:30 AM. The bivy has a five-segment pole arch across the chest, which is nearly useless IMO, since it does not keep the bug net off my head. I wear a visor and a hood to minimize bites through the mesh. The Pertex shield worked well in heavy rain, but there…

PostQuote from uncle meat: “Virgin Mary with a slim Jim swizzle stick and pepperoncini. I forgot the horse radish...ugh!appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…076e9fe3d89007e26cc863e7d ” I tried V8 recently. Maybe horseradish and a Slim Jim would improve it.

PostQuote from Astro: “Quote from max.patch: “now this is some pretty good announcing... streamable.com/qqkq1 ” That was Mike Blowers. His name rhymes with flowers, but I still remember old Harry Caray pronouncing his name like it rhymed with a tool you would use for clearing leaves or snow. ” That reminds me of Mrs. Bucket (Keeping up Appearances) insisting that her name is pronounced "bouquet."
